On its beautiful vintage stage, The Jalopy Theatre celebrates roots music from around the world. From swing jazz to reggae, old time to blues, audiences are delighted to hear fabulous music in an intimate setting. Audiences wonder – “can I learn to play like that?” Yes! Jalopy offers group instruction in guitar, bass, banjo, ukulele, mandolin and fiddle. Come for lessons and create your own band! The front of Jalopy showcases vintage guitars, banjos and ukuleles, available for sale or rental. Owner Geoff Wiley repairs most string instruments and amps. Click here to link to guitar store. In addition to performances, classes and instruments, Jalopy fills its walls with art from local artists, screens old movies, and serves wonderful espresso and teas.

Tony Scherr & Special Guests

Tony Scherr, one of NYC’s most in-demand guitar and bass players, plays a weekly gig at Jalopy! A great start to your week!

He is accompanied by his band, ROB JOST on bass, ANTON FIER on drums.

Tony plays integral roles in the music of such notable artists as Bill Frisell, John Lurie (Lounge L... [ + ]izards), Steven Bernstein (Sex Mob), and Norah Jones, as well as some of New York's better-kept secrets, such as Jesse Harris and the Ferdinandos, The Wollesens, Ursa Minor, and Slowpoke.
“Tony Scherr has a few different profiles as a musician, each of them sharp-honed, peer-reviewed and generously melding into the others. Among jazz fans he commands respect as a bassist in settings either twangy (Bill Frisell) or twitchy (Sex Mob). He's also a known associate of Norah Jones, having played guitar on all of her records. And he's a singer-songwriter of deep and palpable conviction, as he proves with his second album, ''Twist in the Wind.'' - The New York Times
