Chelsea has several Thai restaurants and none particularly special. Kroung Thai, close to Penn Station, has nice ambiance but not terribly authentic. Pad Thai and Spice (a few blocks up) are cute places, nice for a gay date, but if you're looking for real authentic Thai, keep on moving. Pad Thai offers the usual dishes that falang (non-Thai) like to eat, and they are all perfectly acceptable. Fortunately as more Thai move to New York, we are getting more authentic restaurants, which causes the old-timers to rethink their strategies.
