The FireBird aims to recreate the look and feel of an authentic pre-Revolutionary Russian restaurant. The date is 1912. The scene, the fashionable home of a Russian gentleman. Step through the two-story-high entrance into the Dining Room adorned with exquisite china, crystal, and family collectibles; the Library with shelves of rare Russian books alongside a lustrous sixteenth-century icon; ascend its grand staircase and you find The Parlor with exquisite antique chairs and empire sofas; and The Grand Ballroom with a domed ceiling and skylight.
The FireBird is the culmination of a life-long dream of J. William Holt and his wife, Baroness Irina von der Launitz, granddaughter of Vladimir von der Launitz, the mayor of St. Petersburg until his assassination in 1907. The restaurant reflects the Holt's extensive knowledge of and passion for Russian art, literature, and cuisine.
Leaving the restaurant you are suddenly transported back into post-modern New York and Times Square. The lingering effects of the opulant decor and huge selection of Vodkas will leave you wondering if the FireBird was designed for today's Oligarchs rather than former Tsars.
