Real New York texture, really good food
By Marimar who lives in Tribeca

I love this place. First, the bread is great. Second, the food is great. Third the crowd is great. It's not one of those "Oh Look At ME" places whre no one cares about the food (uh... Meatpacking?). No, this is a place where you can get really good bouillabaisse or steak frites, and really feel some of the the texture of New York. It's not one of those places that smacks of Middle America Mall life or chain food.

Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner...
By Adanna who lives in Greenpoint

It's fun to pop in to Balthazar for eggs provencal, baguette and cafe au lait, then head into your busy, busy day. If lunch is your thing, stop in for a steaming bowl of moules frites (mussels and steak fries) and escape the grind for a while. But Friday dinner and the bouillebaisse is a real must, andis the only day you can get it. It is truly a gift from the heavens of the sea. Noisy, crowded and full of all the culinary delights an urbanite could ever want, this is a place you must go to. Make time and stop by. Awesome wine list, awesome baked goods.

Englishwoman in New York who wasn't stung
By Alison who lives in Manchester, England

Looking for a great dining experience? Well we found one at Balthazar. The atmosphere was buzzing (late Sunday evening!), the service some of the best we had during our trip, and the quality of food excellent.

Our waiter recommended fantastic wine choices, even for those just wishing to buy a glass rather than a bottle. And as an oyster virgin, he showed me how to eat them without looking like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman (I know that was snails, but you get the picture.....).

Main course was imaginative, but not overly fussy. I had the Moules Frites. Fantastic fries - and the muss...
