The Benjamin accommodations offer classic elegance and modern design that extends to every detail of the hotel's spacious guest suites. Rooms are decorated in warm shades of cream and taupe with rich mahogany-finished furnishings. Large, ultra-comfortable beds feature custom-designed mattresses covered in luxurious Frette linens and a down-filled duvet, and guests may choose from the hotel’s now-famous menu of ten different pillows. History of the Hotel
Opened in 1927 as The Hotel Beverly, the building was considered to be one of famed architect Emery Roth’s most successful creations, inspiring even legendary artist Georgia O’Keeffe to paint it from her apartment across the street. Purchased in 1997 by Affinia Hospitality, formerly Manhattan East Suite Hotels, the building began its dramatic restoration, opening in Spring of 1999.
The award-winning team that handled the challenging renovation project included the internationally known interior design firm Di Leonardo International and the prominent architectural firm of Ronald Schmidt & Associates. The renovation has not only restored Emery Roth’s neglected 1927 architectural treasure to its original grandeur, but has transformed the building into a classic for the future.
The Benjamin was named for Benjamin J. Denihan, Sr., founder of Affinia Hospitality, formerly Manhattan East Suite Hotels, who turned a small family dry cleaning business into a successful company and later, a collection of New York hotels. Today, 10 hotels are owned and operated by his three sons, daughter, nephew and son-in-law. It is their mission to uphold the genuine values and superior standards established by Denihan years ago. The Benjamin is a tribute to the success and reputation of this man and the company he built.
