Quality of productions is usually very good (though it looks more complicated that it should be) and orchestra is outstanding. Generally the singers are excellent. The only problem is the Met (after I have been attending for 25+ years) becomes boring if you're experienced in participating in things classical. there is very little innovative programming, unlike City Opera across the plaza. Subtitle screens at the seats are terrific.

superlatives abound

The Met is one of the world's leading opera houses, and it's easy to see why. While top tickets prices soar to new heights on an annual basis, Vienna and Milan aren't getting any cheaper either. Now that benefactor Alberto Vilar is en route to the slammer and ChevronTexaco stopped funding Saturday broadcasts, the Met will have to get more creative in fundraising, as productions cost more and more to mount.
