Notsew Productions presents Case Closed: The Dorian Corey Story ,written by playwright, actor, and producer Jeffery S. Jones. The production tells a true story rooted in 1967 New York City, a time when gay life was oppressed, to say the least. Parents disowned their gay children, you could be arrested just for being in a gay bar, and homosexuality was still classified as a mental disorder. The play focuses around famous drag performer Dorian Corey. Dorian was known in New York not only for her drag performances but also for creating a safe haven for others in need in her small Harlem apartment. The play begins after Dorian’s death from AIDS in 1993 , when a friend by chance stumbled upon a mummified corpse in her closest and that is where the investigation begins, as police began to investigate Dorian first then friends and members of her community. In a world where everyone is obsessed with true crime documentaries, this production is perfect for those trying to fill their true crime additions as well as learn more of about the history of the New York City LGBTQIA+ community
