Editorial Review
WNYC 93.9 FM and AM 820 are New York's flagship public radio stations, broadcasting the finest programs from National Public Radio and Public Radio International, as well as a wide range of award-winning local programming.

In the mid-1990s, faced with a budget gap, Mayor Rudolph Giuliani announced plans to sell WNYC FM and AM. In response, passionate WNYC listeners joined together and raised $20 million and on January 7, 1997, the license officially changed hands. In 2009, WNYC moved from its long-time headquarters high atop the Municipal Building to new studios on Varick Street. Its Jerome L. Greene Performance Space allows for audiences to attend live and taped broadcasts.
