a major hassle, a big expense

Renting a car in Manhattan especially can be annoying, time-consuming, a waste of energy and money. In addition to some of the highest rates in the United States, none of the major car rental offices in New York are known for friendly or outstanding service. Then after you've rented, you've got to return it, and that usually is a major hassle as well compared to other locations throughout the United States where in comparison it usually takes one or two minutes. Sure, you might save money by renting in Hoboken or Newark, but do you really want the hassle?
