The massive underground store open 24/7/365 is marked by a sleek glass cube at the plaza in front of the drab GM building on Fifth Avenue, a dramatic setting that symbolizes the old tech vs. new tech dichotomy. Indeed, the soaring glass cube, each face more than 30 feet, marks new territory for Apple, which before the introduction of its beloved iPod almost went to the brink. Seems intuitive that the Big Apple gets the biggest Apple Store, right?
Not only is this the largest Apple Store (with more than 300 employees), its Genius Bar will have almost 100 full-time staff. In fact, with this 45-foot-long combo Genius Bar, iPod Bar and The Studio, we predict New Yorkers of all stripes will abandon Kinko's and instead hang around here to swap ideas as well as work feverishly on projects in the middle of the night.
