I went to ABC Camera Inc to purchase a zoom lense for my newly bought Canon SLR Camera. I wanted to by a zoom lense with Image Stabilisator (IS) and I was coerced into also buying a UV filter for my "Canon EOS REBEL XTI" digital camera. When signing the Sales Slip/credit card slip I was distracted by another salesperson. When I returned home to Nicaragua, I examined the Sales Slips and found that I had been "conned" out of 350 + 75!. I was charged 320 before tax for the lense; its cost is normally 169 at pricerunner.com. I was charged 69:00 before tax for the UV Filter; its cost is 19:00 at pricerunner.com. The worst is that the lense I recieved did have the specification described but WITHOUT the IS, that normally double the price. We only had 4 days in NY and our camera was not working properly, so we took it into this shop to get some advice. One of the assistants told us that we needed a new battery, but while he was getting it, the so-called manager came and tried to sell us a new camcorder/digital camera/mp3 player, which he promised to sell to us at a cheaper price than normal. We trusted him as in England shopkeepers are NOT allowed to charge above the going rate, and we assumed that NY would be the same. However after buying it, we looked in another shop and discovered that we had been grossly overcharged. As we were leaving the next day, I rang the first shop and the manager agreed to meet me at the second shop. He did so, but by that time the second shop had changed their price.
I feel that this shop should be stopped from trading as they rip off foreigners and give NY a bad name - we have no desire ...

Went into this shop on 7th Avenue, asked salesman about a purchase on a sony camera which was a good price. However once I had agreed the price he then tried to sell me a much improived specification Fuji Camera for a similar price. Once I inspected the camera at the hotel the specification was not as he suggested. The camera was a similar spec to the sony but was over priced. I returned to the store they would not refund the camera. I called the card payment company and stopped payment. Only then did they refund the payment. I have reported the company to the NYC consumer department.

Under no circumstances should anyone purchase anything from this shop. While in the shop they continued the practice of trying to change the sale to products that were obviously more profitable. I intend to see if my travel insurance will cover a civil action for the time wasted in the store.

I called at ABC Camera Inc to purchase a head cleaning tape for my camcorder.
The shop assistant tried to persuade me to buy other expensive items that I did not need.
I was coerced into buying a spare battery (Canon NB-5L) for my "Canon IXUS 850 IS" digital camera.
When signing the Sales Slip/credit card slip I was distracted by the other salesperson.
When I returned home, I examined the Sales Slips and found that I had been "conned" out of
$157:18.
I was charged $129:99 before tax for the battery; its cost is normally $36.99 at Amazon.com (maximum retail $59:99).
I was charged $80:00 before tax for the Panasonic Mini DV Head Cleaner; its cost is $14:83 at Amazon.com.
Having arrived back home to Ireland I feel very angry at having been "taken for a ride" by what seemed to be a "legitimate" business!
