This branch of Ruby Foo's has closed, but the
Times Square location remains very much alive. Our original review follows:
Far East cuisine in a far out scene. That's the irresistible draw of Ruby Foo's -- restaurateur Stephen Hanson's latest Upper West Side adventure. This 10,000 square-foot, tri-level, 400-seat extravaganza boasts a two-story high sushi bar, a wall composed of hundreds of colorful mah jongg tiles, and a sweeping theatrical staircase that would make Norma Desmond proud. Stroll upward in front of the 30-foot high, red lacquered wall, resembling a Japanese bento box, and you're on your way to an exceptional dining experience. Bring lots of friends and an insatiable appetite because Ruby Foo's alluring menu is designed for sharing.
Feast on fine sushi; entice your taste buds with exquisite maki, like Tempura Shrimp, Snow Crab, Avocado, Mango Maki Roll, or the "to die for" Tamarind Glazed Baby Back Ribs according to New York Magazine's Hal Rubenstein. Try the 3-Flavor, Crispy Whole Fish or the Miso-Glazed Black Cod with Shanghai Bok Choy. For dessert enjoy the Ruby Foo's chocolate cake - definately not for the inexperienced chocolate lover. The drink menu alone is worth the visit. Try the Ruby Foo, (an addictive variation on the Cosmopolitan), a variety of Asian Beers and Saki, or choose from our award winning yet reasonably priced wine list.
