Editorial Review
Nish has closed. Our original review follows:
Wayne Nish, chef/co-owner of NISH and his partner, Joseph Scalice, opened this new restaurant in the same elegant turn-of-the-century townhouse that formerly housed their acclaimed restaurant March. Since March first opened in 1990, Nish and Scalice made this charming townhouse, located on a quiet corner of Sutton Place, into one of Manhattan's premier destination restaurants. With a cozy fireplace up front and a terrace for warmer weather, the space has always offered romantic charm. However, over time March seemed to fall off many diners radars and Nish & Scalice seemed to feel a change was due. Their vision seems to be to offer a slightly younger, slightly hipper, version of March.
Here, Nish showcases his knowledge and passion for fusion cuisine and offers an a la carte menu with classic French, Middle Eastern, Italian, Chinese-Japanese and Indian influences. Also available at NISH is a four course tasting menu for $59 that allows diners to create their own experience with dishes from any of the sections on the menu. With the opening of his restaurant, Chef Nish implemented a raw milk cheese program, including cheese imported directly from France. The wine list, developed by co-owner Joseph Scalice, includes an array of affordably-priced and exceptional quality selections. NISH embodies a modern décor through the work of American and European artists, while maintaining the romance of an Upper East Side brown stone.
