Of the Grand Sichuan restaurants in Manhattan, this one has the most eclectic crowd, which ranges from retirees to Chelsea boys to Chinese office workers. White tablecloth dining here and a generally-packed room doesn't necessarily mean it's the most authentic: If you look around, lots of the patrons are eating the "American Chinese food" dishes rather than the truly authentic Sichuan dishes or items listed under "Mao's home cooking". Nevertheless, there are some real Sichuan gems here, although Grand Sichuan Eastern and Grand Sichuan St. Marks have a far greater range of authentic Sichuan food. Why is that? Ask the owner, or take a look around and decide for yourself.
