Editorial Review
When Doma appeared at the turn of the new millennium, denizens and admirers of Greenwich Village found a wonderful home to sit and be inspired by all manner of muses. Unfortunately, those muses neglected to tell the patrons that nursing a cup of coffee for three hours while banging away on your laptop and sucking up the free WiFi can become rather droll. What exactly are we saying? It's time to shove off, folks. While Doma retains some of its original charm, a nice Prague-style cafe with white walls and delightful coffee drinks to match the very edible cafe fare, it feels sometimes like the main reading room at the New York Public Library, where the sound of keystrokes can lend it the feel of Gutenberg's 21st century publishing house. One wonders if the patron at the next table is typing the next Great American Novel or sending instant messages to bored friends at skool. Grendel's mead hall was nothing like this. But perhaps this is the new Bohemia for the electronic era?
