Who says you can't resurrect the ghost of restaurants past? The legendary Casanis of East First Street, a mainstay of the early 1990s, has been revived with its beloved original chef, Sebastian Maczko, perhaps fittingly on the Lower East Side street known for its many early 1990s ghosts. While the site of the original Casanis became the home of Gabrielle Hamilton's now-legendary
Prune, it was the memory of long, boozy evenings at Casanis that obviously prompted a revival. Time will tell if the new incarnation meets or exceeds the original's greatness.
