This place is a joke!

Pros: Bathroom, decoration, Deniz the waiter, the tip box
Cons: terrible food, horrible and rude service, expensive for small portions.

I had to make sure I went to the right place when I read everyone else's review. I am shocked to see that some people had such a good experience. This was, by far, the worst Turkish restaurant that I have ever been to. I am Turkish myself so I definitely know what good Turkish food should taste like. Mind you, I am not that picky and normally don't judge restaurants by much. I'm often easily satisfied. But today, I went here with family and NONE OF US had a good experience. Let me start from the very beginning: (1)We were seated by a blond waitress who was clearly not Turkish (looked Russian). She had absolutely no personality and did not smile once. While giving our drink orders, my grandmother said, "No ice in my water but put ice in his (my grandfathers)" she replied, "Okay whatever," under her breath. That was when I first wanted to punch her out and could not believe that a waitress would be this characterless. Then, she basically disappeared for the rest of our stay. We pretty much had 3 different people serving us. The snob walked around a few times but never really approached our table again. This, I can't complain about because I probably would have knocked her out. (2) The falafel was fried too much. It was hard. I wasn't very happy. The eggplant salad, on the other hand, was much better but......not only have I had better eggplant salad at other Turkish restaurants but they also sell eggplant salad in a jar at Turkish stores and even THAT tastes better. (3) I ordered a kebab wrap. The meat was barely cooked....it was gross. And there was nothing else on the plate other than the wrap and a yogurt sauce. Thats it? At least if its going to taste bad...make it look good or something like that. My family members all had lamb chops. There are 3 lamb chops per person. WHAT IS THAT!?!?! Any other Turkish restaurant I have been to gives 4. Lamb chops hardly even have any meat on them so 3 would have fed a child, perhaps. Although I cannot lie, my family members said that the lamb chops weren't bad. The flavor was good but all they had next to it was a spoon of rice. That's all???? For 20 bucks???? They have no knowledge of decorative presentation. People enjoy food not only when it tastes good but when it looks good. This restaurant's food did neither. (4) THIS IS WHAT REALLY DROVE ME CRAZY. Some waitress that I had never seen came over with our bill. Now, not only did we not ask for it but......we were never asked if we wanted dessert. I pointed that out to her and she took the bill back. She didn't bring a dessert menu for everyone. We just looked at the one that we had not given back after giving our orders. We ordered pistachio baklava, kadayif (which when asked about to a waiter, was said to be the soft kind of kadayif not the hard pressed kind and guess what? he lied) and some other kind of baklava thing. Okay...so we expected that at least, the sweets would be good. Because, on Turkish TV.....this cafe has an advertisement and they especially mention their desserts and how famous they are. WHAT!?!!??!?!?! The desserts were not even fresh. They tasted like the kind that you buy from a Turkish store after it has been sitting there for 2 days. We didn't even get to enjoy that! (5) My grandparents had Turkish coffee but it was every other than Turkish coffee. Anyone who is Turkish knows that the best of Turkish coffees has to have bubbles on top. The more the bubbles, the better. This coffee did not have a single bubble. NONE!!!!! I'm not even exaggerating. It was disgusting!!!! (6) FINALLY, I will now tell you what I thought was the most annoying part about this place. The waiters and waitresses that we spoke to.....barely speak English. They couldn't understand me several times so I spoke Turkish. The first person I spoke to in Turkish said, "We are not allowed to speak Turkish." I thought he was joking so I asked another waiter and he said, "Yes, we are not allowed to speak Turkish. Manager doesn't allow." ISN'T THIS PLACE TURKISH!?!?!?!?! Don't they think that some Turkish customers who barely speak English are going to come?!?!? They set up this place is an ottoman, very Turkish, style yet they are not allowed to speak Turkish? Well then Manager, HOW ABOUT HIRING WAITERS AND WAITRESSES THAT AREN'T NEW IN THIS COUNTRY!?! That is ridiculous. OK OK OK.....I am done bashing this place. I will get to the positive: (1) The bathroom is clean. (2) The decoration of the restaurant....sofas and chairs....and Kilims (Turkish rugs) are nice. (3) Deniz....a waiter at the restaurant.....was the only reason I didn't flip out and go nuts on anyone. He was the cutest thing ever and the only one that had a smile on his face. He is also new from Turkey and just learning English but still managed to have a smile on his face and check up on us EVEN THOUGH HE WASN'T OUR ACTUAL WAITER.....I would never ever go back to that restaurant again. I think I'll be spending tonight sick to my stomach.
