it ain't Kansas city, but it is good!
Pros: food is great, service is fast
Cons: sometimes overwhelming customers
Let's face it; purists will claim there isn't authentic BBQ in NYC. but there sure are good places to find it. A spate of new BBQ joints have opened in recent months, including on Greenwich Ave. (Bone Lick Park) near St. Vincent's Hospital, on West 23rd Street near the Chelsea Hotel, and Upstate New York's fave Dinosaur BBQ in Harlem. But time after time Virgil's never fails to satisfy. Try to avoid the pre-theater rush and weekends are particularly busy, but the wait is usually not more than 20 minutes if you show up even at busy times. Pulled pork is terrific, the sides are great, I like the gravy. It's a good value.
