A couple of weeks ago, I reported that Staten Island's renowned and beloved Victory Diner was headed for the recycling heap as reported in the Staten Island Advance. Well, the good news was announced in that same paper of record for the greenest borough that a consortium of civic and business leaders (including the Advance), had come together to rescue the endangered diner and move it to a lovely seaside location on the FDR Boardwalk in the Island's Midland Beach section. Hooray for everyone involved from the BP, and the Advance, Richmond County Savings Bank, the Diner Museum and others --- even the sometime mouthpiece for Staten Island developers, Randy Lee -- who all came together to get this done (or at least started). Everyone except for Linsay Lohan, Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie was involved.
Now wait, hold your applause,
One point I want to share with you is that the article about the resolution credits participants in the Staten Island Advance online forums for coming up with the idea to move the diner to South Beach. From there, the Advance in it's wisdom, instead suggested moving it to Midland Beach, where there aren't any concessions as of yet. Well, that's a great idea, but I do have to point out my own post responding to the Staten Island Advance's Turning Tables blog on July 13, where I wrote "But even better, I like the idea of adding it to the South Beach boardwalk (maybe even better at Midland where there aren't any vendors yet.) It would be one truly authentic Staten Island attraction on the boardwalk."
OK, Now you may applaud!!
