A Petition to Save St. Pauls School, a multictural haven on Staten Island

Welcome to my new blog. Details later, but first I'd like to bring you up to date on a current situation, and what you can do about it.

The Archdiocese of New York plans to close St. Paul School and Parish on Staten Island. This multicultrual school serves a student body of which 65% live below the poverty line. The plan is to close St. Pauls and expand on the wealthier South Shore -- leaving behind prime real estate in a New Brighton community where residents have been working hard at saving their single homes and developers have been working just as had to find properties that can be
turned into attached housing.

There is a petition to save St. Paul's online at http://www.where-to-turn.org ! Please sign today, and e-mail the link to everyone you know.

If you'd like to know more about the story, here is a good one from the Staten Island Advance:

UPDATE,
The Archdiocese (Cardinal Egan specifically), made the final decision to close St. Paul School on Staten Island. Thanks to any of you who signed a petition or wrote a letter on our behalf. For more info, here is a Staten Island Advance editorial about the tragic nature of this decision: http://www.silive.com/editorials/advance/index.ssf?/base/news/1145798108283200.xml&coll=1
