Gourmet Garage indeed
Pros: Good service, NYC style, great place to grab dinner
Cons: no pet food
Wow!
Whether you're in town for the weekend or you live around the corner, Gourmet Garage is your friend.
This chain of mini-markets provide lovely, fresh gourmet food at expectedly New York prices. We're not talkin' Dean & Deluca but we're also not talkin' Trader Joe's if you get my drift.
What you'll find are small selections of fresh fruit and vegetables, meats, deli items, little extravagances, pasta, chocolates etc.
Lets talk coffee as this is the 'make or break' for me. Gourmet Garage stock their own range of ground coffee. The one that I highly recommend is 'Bavarian Chocolate'. With coffee this good, why would you bother drinking that slop you generally find in cafes?!
Other recommendations include their own quince paste, 'Chocolate Chunk' cookies and their cuts of meat (yes I'm a dirty, filthy carnivore).
Generally speaking the staff are helpful and efficient and actually stop their conversations with one another when you ask for something as opposed to Food Emporium where you pretty much have to ring up and bag your own groceries.
