Possibly the best cup of coffee I've ever had if you can get past the name.
Pros: Great coffee, fresh from the oven pastries, charming surroundings.
Cons: Kind of hard to find, off Rt. 9W in Rockland County
It's true. I've been a coffee drinker for years, but became a coffee lover when I stumbled across this charming coffee shop just across the Tappan Zee bridge in barely upstate New York. Their coffee is amazingly delicious. Ah but the name. Bunbury's house coffee is called "The Dog's Bollix," after the British expression for something quite good, ("Well isn't that the dog's bollocks?") Regardless, it's turned me into a total snob. (Sorry Starbucks.) The small shop also bakes its own pastries daily. The Bunbury Muffin, a soft/crunchy carrot raisin delight with apples, walnuts, coconut and a streusel topping is fantastic. Also recommended are some of the unique sandwiches including a spicy curry chicken salad wrap, a ham apple brie sandwich on rustica bread and an actual Ploughman's Lunch complete with Branson Pickel! The place is small but charming, with a sofa and comfy chair in the bay window looking out onto Piermont's Sycamore tree shaded main street. Relaxing is easy with soft lighting, and plenty of real books and magazines to read. I recommend Bunbury's highly, an excellent destination for a day away that's not too far away.
