"Josie Woods" means the REAL NY experience
Pros: The service was excellent; very friendly, The food was the best I've had in a long time, Fun place
Cons: There were none
After a day of touring NYC that began at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on the other side of the world, we wound up down in the village to walk around and shop. As the sun began to set, our two teenage sons were getting hungry and tired. I had a list of eateries that I had researched on the net before our adventure that day but they were all several blocks away and none of us felt like walking anymore. We began to search our immediate surroundings. We passed several places, Pizza, Mexican but no one could decide. My husband spied this place called Josie Woods Hole. And I said "I am not eating in place that refers to a hole. That's just weird." He said let's just go look. We walked in the door and made the descent down the stairs. What we found at the bottom was a Pub. There were some pool tables to the left and the eating area to the right. A few "locals" at the bar rounded out the pub type atmosphere. Were we still in NYC? Where's all the flash and trendiness? We were greeted by our waiter (whose name I wish I could remember because he was excellent) and seated at a table. The food was excellent and the prices were amazing by NYC standards. My husband and sons ordered the steak fajitas, which were delicious. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger, which, as a burger aficionado I have to say was one of the best burgers that I have ever eaten. The cherry on top however, was the beer. We were going to order a pitcher of Sam Adams but our waiter recommended a special summer micro brew as deftly as a sommelier. He brought us each (my husband and I, not the teens) a glass to try on the house and it was sooo good. We ordered a pitcher. I don’t recall exactly what we paid but by NYC standards this place is a HUGE bargain. The food is delicious and the wait staff was very nice. The college crowd from NYU fills the place up after about 8:30. If you're looking for fancy, this place isn't it. But if you're looking for good food, good beer, good times, this place is it. I would recommend Josie Woods and we will eat there again on our next visit to NYC.
