A Good Time Was Had By All
Pros: Great atmosphere, food and value
Cons: Small bathrooms, sometimes too busy
The first time I went to 1849 was to watch a world series game with some friends. I remember liking the atmosphere and the food (I think we got Nachos and wings). It was like being in someone's living room sitting on the couches to watch one of the many big screens. The crowd was high spirited but not too crazy like some sports bars. There were even fans there from the opposing team yet I didn't feel like anyone would get hurt. Next time I went by I saw that they have a 20 cent wing special every afternoon and some nights each week so I stopped in for an early dinner with a friend. We got the wings but decided to try the ribs and fajitas too. They were just as good as the wings. Since then I've been there many times and tried almost everything on the menu and haven't gone wrong yet. And when I need comfort food I get their homemade mac and cheese. It works every time. Sometimes I just go there for a drink and frequently I catch one of their drink specials. I'd say this place is pretty special for Bleecker Street where quality like this is hard to find, particularly at these prices.
