2-28 "Other People’s Property: A Shadow History of Hip Hop in White America" Book Event

Join music writers Jason Tanz, Alan Light and Sacha Jenkins for a panel discussion on hip-hop culture and its assimilation into the mainstream. “Hip-hop in the American pop-cultural mainstream is a matter of much more than the Beastie Boys, as Tanz's skewering history of middle-class white assimilation of black cultural motifs for fun and profit makes clear…Food for thought.” (Booklist) The discussion will be followed by a question and answer session and a book signing.

Design Within Reach Brooklyn Heights Studio
76 Montague St / Hicks st
Brooklyn, NY 11201

Steven Lynch

Composer/Pianist/Songwriter Steven Lynch returns to the Gershwin Hotel

2/9-2/10 Crispin Hellion Glover in person!

AT IFC!!!

Crispin Hellion Glover in person
with his feature film WHAT IS IT?
and dramatic presentation of his BIG SLIDE SHOW

Plus a Q&A and book signing, and footage from
Glover's new feature It Is Fine. EVERYTHING IS FINE!
Friday, February 9 - Sunday, February 11 at 7:30pm!

Renegade auteur Crispin Hellion Glover returns to New York to present his notorious feature WHAT IS IT?, described as "the adventures of a young man whose principal interests are snails, salt, a pipe and how to get home, as tormented by a hubristic racist inner psyche." Its cast is largely comprised of actors with Down's Syndrome, with Glover himself also appearing in the film as an actor in the role of "Dueling Demi-God Auteur and The Young Man's Inner Psyche." One of the movie's snail characters is voiced by Fairuza Balk.

The program also features Crispin Hellion Glover's Big Slide Show, an hour-long dramatic narration of eight stories taken from Victorian-era books, plus a Q&A, a book signing and a special sneak preview of scenes from the sequel to WHAT IS IT? -- part two of the 'It' trilogy, Glover's newest film, It is Fine. EVERYTHING IS FINE!, which debuted at this year's Sundance.

"For more than 20 years, Crispin Glover, actor, has maintained a truly distinctive, oddball persona, existing on his own plane. Unsurprisingly, his directorial debut, WHAT IS IT? -- which plays as part of a double bill with a live, enthusiastically performed slide show in which Mr. Glover displays pages from his recent series of books -- is just as unclassifiable as he is... Crispin Hellion Glover, auteur, is a force to be reckoned with." - Laura Kern, The New York Times
