Here's a party theme for you: candle-lit drinking. In a bout of
nostalgia for the infamous blackout of summer '03, Stain Bar in
Williamsburg is throwing a one-night throwback jam to that fateful
night three Augusts ago. Expect tons of analog fun, including candles,
canned goods, grilling, board games, and ghost stories. And you can
even win a prize for looking like you got dressed in the dark, as
opposed to any other night when that stunt would earn quizzical and
judgmental looks. Stain Bar, 766 Grand St., Williamsburg, Brooklyn,
(718) 387-7840. 8 p.m. Free.

The Movie
8:30 PM
Asser Levy Park amphitheater
between Sea Breeze and Ocean at 2nd street
Coney Island, NY
In The Warriors, a renowned New York City gang leader named Cyrus
(Roger Hill) plots an all-out battle against the police. As part of his
strategy he calls upon Gotham's gangs to set aside their local turf
wars and join forces at a summit in Manhattan's Riverside Park.
In the movie, a rival leader kills Cyrus and the Coney Island gang
called "The Warriors" is wrongly blamed for his death. Quickly, the
cops and every gang in the city are after the Warriors. In the film,
the Warriors make their way from one end of New York to their home turf
back in Coney Island.
After the Movie
Members of the cast and crew will conduct a Q&A session. Netflix is
pleased to announce the following cast members' attendance at the
screening and Q&A: Deborah Van Valkenburgh (Mercy), Michael Beck
(Swan), David Harris (Cochise), Terry Michos (Vermin), Brian Tyler
(Snow), Dorsey Wright (Cleon), Tom McKitterick (Cowboy), and Thomas G.
Waites (Fox).

Complacent Nation / TheDanger.com invites you to:
One Night of Fire
This Saturday : July 29th : Sunset
Absolutely Free.
New details: http://www.onenightoffire.com
This is your Saturday night: a moment of awe, a glimpse of the impossible and the intoxication of your nightlife set free.
Several years ago I came to this city in search of days of beauty and
nights of fire. Thus began Complacent Nation: seven years of
massive art parties, intimate escapades,
epic success and infamous failure. This Saturday is the
culmination of our journey - a burning adventure of the
everything-is-possible realized with music, performance and the
spectacle of flame.
Because you love revelry spiked with risk, this is the night you dream of.
A tight cabal of artists, performers and miracle makers has come
together to create simple moments of beauty within a massive carnival
of fire. Expect: dozens of drummers stilt walkers fire
spinners renegade aerialists fireworks & rocketships gifts of
liquor brass march bands champagne showers a liberated
water-front the unending spectacle of sparks and flame and a night
gone wild.
This event is epic, if you want it.
This party is free, open and participatory. If you have a costume
wear it (the more immaculate the better), if you have a drink share it
(discreetly), if you have music play it, and if you see something wrong
set it right or keep moving.
The colors for this night are red, yellow and orange. Arrive in fire
themed costume (think: Pheonix, Iccarus, Prometheus, M. Jackson circa
1984) or dress in red/yellow/orange. Bring gifts to share of
red/yellow/orange (think: whip-cream on cherries, orange sorbet, vodka
and lemonade, rubber duckies, match-sticks).
The start location will be announced on this list, Friday at 2pm.
Aim yourself for way-down-town Manhattan/Brooklyn, 7:57pm sharp.
*This event is absolutely free.*
We create these moments because this city deserves to be alive, because
you deserve the night and we couldn't imagine living any other
way. This night has all the potential for infamous amusement or
forgettable tragedy. Your participation will turn the difference.
This is the start of an urgent idea that has been building for years -
an unapologetic celebration of a life lived free. This is the
passion, the possibility and the birth of TheDanger.com.
---------------------------------------------------
The event below is a warm-up for Saturday's One Night of Fire.
Join us and meet the performers who make all of this
happen. Proceeds from the bar will cover the costs of the
street event, donations at the door go to a very good cause.
Akim Funk Buddha and Myla Flores present:

Special appearance by ethereal vocalist Imani Uzuri.
12:00- Dj Kwame' Akbar (brazilian beats, breaks, global soul).
Live brazilian drums by silent mystic Vivian & Co.
Urban international appearances all night: theatrics and futuristic
dances under the epic dome sculpture of Thomas Beale. Roving performers
& spontaneous fire ritual under the orchestration of Akim Funk
Buddha, a Balinese inspired mask dance from Myla Flores, a performance
from the body poet Kazuma Mutamura, and a Japanese tea ceremony with
Akiko 'the funky geisha.'
Come get bewildered.
Proceeds from this event will support Akim Funk Buddha under the The
Rehabilitation Art Fund as he travels to Brazil to research in Rio de
Janeiro this August, where he will also be performing in the
International Capoeira Games. Donations can be made directly to
Projectile Arts, a 501c3 not-for-profit organization that manages the
fund. Akim Funk Buddha is the director of Projectile Art's Urban

I (heart) DANGER redux
Saturday, August 5th
@ 3rd Ward Brooklyn
195 Morgan Ave.
9pm to 9am (or later)
Earlier this year we hosted an event of danger art, daring dj's and
intimate devilry. Because of space limitations we had to limit
the attendance of that party. This time we have no
limitations. Over 20 artists are teaming to build a landscape of
interactive experiences and dangerous ideas. With house, drum
& bass and minimal techno from Mathew Dear, eVa, Wolf Lamb,
Spinoza, dj Winter, Fflood and many many more.

Fire on Wall Street
Ellis Wood Dance
Aug. 21 - 23, 28 - 30
12PM & 12:30PM | FREE
Exterior balconies at Cipriani's 55 Wall Street
In a raw exploration of fire, the women of Ellis Wood Dance manipulate
their bodies and command the grandiose architecture of 55 Wall Street
with sensual abandon.
Topless and sheathed in endless mesh fabric, the twenty dancers expose
the passion and power of women in an environment where these qualities
are not usually celebrated.

John Jonas Gruen, author/photographer of the re-issued The Sixties:
Young in the Hamptons is joined by Richard Barons, author of the
Introduction and Director of the EEast Hampton Historical Society for
this reading.
Publisher's Description...
The Hamptons, the string of idyllic country beach towns on eastern Long
Island within a morning’s drive of New York City, haven’t always been
reserved for the rich and famous: some of the twentieth-century’s
best-known cultural figures weren’t rich or famous yet when they
arrived there. In 1960, the writer and photographer John Jonas Gruen
and his wife, the painter Jane Wilson, bought a carriage house in Water
Mill, a hamlet between Southampton and East Hampton. Gruen, then an art
and music critic for the New York Herald Tribune, and later a regular
contributor to The New York Times, ARTnews and Vogue, had long been an
avid photographer, and it gave him enormous pleasure to take pictures
of his family and friends at every possible opportunity. Thus it was
that The Sixties: Young in the Hamptons was born, a visual memoir of
the young Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, Willem de Kooning,
Marisol, Jim Dine, Leonard Bernstein, Frank O’Hara, John Ashbery, James
Schuyler, Kenneth Koch, Stella Adler and Edward Albee, among many other
gifted visitors.

Has it been weeks since you found yourself in a public park, drunk, in
an ill-fitting costume, being beaten with a baguette? If you miss those
moments come to the shop tomorrow, Tuesday, at 8pm and become a part of
Dueling Re-Enactments, the event that will thoughtfully present, then
irrevocably desecrate the history of Washington Square Park for
confused tourists and crying children.
So far we have Surrealists (re-creating Dali's seizure of Washington
Square park and declaration of an independent Surrealist republic in
1917), Victorian aristocrats gone wrong(Assassination of Stanford K
White by Henry Thaw) executioners at the Hanging Tree, skaters
re-creating the beating scene from Kids, and maybe some Beat poets
chain smoking. We still need at least one more group, and as many more
as wants to show up. If you want to start a group step up and do so. We
need Veronica's sophomore year of High School, lost Amish, NYU
Students, any good ideas welcome). If you want to keep thinking to a
minimum a group will be assigned to you, tomorrow.
The event is on Saturday, at 3pm, and should run no more than 30-60
minutes. You will be plied with whiskey before, and champagne
afterwards. It will be fun, allow you to beat someone with an umbrella,
and will get you so laid you might die.

It is with great excitement that we are (finally!) able to announce
that Nick Knight has been chosen to receive The 2006 Möet & Chandon
Fashion Tribute. Launched in 1998, the prestigious award has previously
been awarded to Vivienne Westwood, Philip Treacy and Matthew
Williamson. Instead of the staple dinner, Nick Knight has chosen to
mark the tribute with a lavish Masked Ball, to be staged on Tuesday
24th October. A wealth of international personalities from the world of
fashion, photography, film, music, and art who have previously worked
with Nick will be in attendance and, of course, the whole event will be
broadcast live on SHOWstudio. Nick has invited nine designers (and one
stylist!) to create dresses to be worn by their chosen muses to the
event.
Naturally, tickets are going to be like the proverbial hen's tooth.
However, we're generous souls and have managed to spare two golden
tickets for you, dear viewers, to inveigle your way into the fashion
event of the century (well, so far!). To enter our ‘You Shall Go to the
Ball’ competition, all you need to do is design a dress (or suit) and
mask that can be worn to The Masked Ball. Then photograph the outfit
and send a back and front image with your contact details to
youshallgototheball@showstudio.com, by the 13th October deadline. Nick
Knight will judge the competiton (based solely on the design and NOT
the styling or photography!) and two successful entrants –with at least
one entrant from the UK- will be invited to attend the Masked Ball,
dressed of course, in their winning design. All outfits –the specially
commissioned designer creations and the two competiton-winning entries-
will be auctioned to raise money for the Prince's Trust later in the
year.
Well, what are you waiting for?!!

including barbeque, dodgeball and a 27-foot inflatable slip 'n' slide.
The main attraction, though, is the music, which includes such
noteworthy acts Les Savy Fav, Dead Meadow, Of Montreal, The Walkmen,
Enon, Deerhoof, Gang Gang Dance, The Double and other surprise guests
to be announced. Admission is free, but be advised that non-JELLYNYC
Pool Party performances taking place at McCarren Park may not be, so
plan appropriately. For more information, visit the Web site.
