Flounce for flounce, you won't find a more thrilling fashion show this season than the one that just opened at the Cooper-Hewitt.
The sixty-eight garments from the past 300 years that comprise Fashion in Colors are divvied up by colors, so there's a red room, a white room, a yellow room, and so on.
Brief explanations of how and why colors have been used by designers makes for revelatory viewing and imply a strong case for fashion as art form.
But you can also go just to see a beautifully conceived and executed exhibition of some fab clothes. The eye-popping selections range from a 1750 British silk taffeta dress, through Chanel, down to Viktor & Rolf, including dresses by Dior, Dolce and Gabbana, Pucci, Armani, Gaultier, Schiaparelli, and Watanabe.
Most of the clothes come from the Kyoto Costume Institute, which organized the exhibition. "Fashion in Colors" runs through March 26 at the Cooper-Hewitt, 212.849.8400. Admission is $12.

LVHRD Celebrates The New Year With The Super Heroes Ball
Underground creative society produces first publicly accessible event to herald the superheroism of ordinary people in the extraordinary times of 2005
December 12, 2005, NEW YORK -- The LVHRD Foundation is pleased to announce the Super Heroes Ball, to take place on Friday, December 30. This New Year’s Eve Eve extravaganza will be LVHRD’s first public-access event since the inception of its New York chapter in 2004. The Super Heroes Ball will combine the mischievous, costumed revelry of a masquerade with the more macabre intrigue of a murder mystery. True to the spirit of Gotham City, illustrators Paul Pope and John Cassaday of “Batman 100” and “X-Men,” respectively, will contribute original artwork for LVHRD’s holiday spectacular.
The Super Heroes Ball was conceived by LVHRD Founder, Beauregard H. Montgomery, when he recognized that a positive and creative approach to life is contradicted by the conclusive sentimentality that dominates New Year’s in New York. “Rather than focus on the ball drop and Auld Lang Syne, we should celebrate the excitement of the unknown, of the accomplishments of a year gone by and the promises of the future,” says Mr. Montgomery regarding the event concept. With this message in mind, LVHRD will produce the Super Heroes Ball before the city can raise its champagne flutes in the usual farewell salute to 2005. The event will preemptively welcome 2006 on the eve of New Year’s Eve with due exuberance and anticipation. In this spirit, LVHRD invites its attendees to make their appearance as “super” versions of their everyday selves.
LVHRD will be announcing prices and launching a registration site for the Super Heroes Ball in the upcoming weeks. Both members and non-members who are interested in attending will be required to reserve their place through the site and provide detailed information regarding their superhero and civilian identities. Space will be limited and attendees are asked to dress convincingly -- for reasons of safety, civilians will not be admitted. Admission to the Super Heroes Ball will include free cocktails, hors d’ oeuvres, live entertainment, and participation in an interactive crime narrative with the winner taking home the framed original work created by Paul Pope.
In keeping with the idea of boundless possibilities and intrepid optimism, the Super Heroes Ball will open LVHRD’s doors to the general public for the first time in the history of the organization. As in the past, however, the location of the event will remain undisclosed until the date of its occurrence, and detailed announcements will be made to registered attendees only. Those who have previously been unable to penetrate the underground element of this creative society are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity, as LVHRD will resume the private nature of its events in 2006.

SATURDAY, DEC. 10
Mrs Peacock: Do you know if there is a ladies room around?
Yvette: Oui oui, Madame. [points]
Mrs. Peacock: No, no, I just have to powder my nose.
If that is not one of the most hilarious comedic misunderstandings in the history of film, then we don't what is. Catch "Clue" tonight at the Sunshine, 143 E. Houston St., 212-330-8182. 12 a.m. $10.50.
SUNDAY, DEC. 11
"A Jewcy Chanukah" is the Chanukah celebration to end all Chanukah celebrations! Not that we want to end all Chanukah celebrations, it's just that this Chanukah celebration is apparently going to be "Jewcy," and we're pretty sure that's another way of saying "fun." And how could it not be fun? Not only will SNL's Rachel Dratch, comedian Todd Barry, and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog (apparently he's Jewish! Who knew?) be stopping by, but Perry Farrell, Princess Superstar and Northern State are delivering performances that are sure to rock the party that rocks your body. All proceeds from the show benefit NATAN. Crobar, 530 W. 28th St., (212) 868-4444. 7 p.m. $25.
MONDAY, DEC. 12
Literary critic and Yale mascot Harold Bloom, novelist Michael Cunningham and poet J.D. McClatchy read from and discuss Walt Whitman's "Leaves of Grass" on its 150th anniversary. Prepare to feel a little bit dumb. 92nd St. Y, 1395 Lexington Ave., (212) 415-5500. 8 p.m. $17.
TUESDAY, DEC. 13
Even though their name sounds like the cheap-ass perfume that your grandma wears, Brooklyn band Diamond Nights are all about power chords and singing in falsettos. And, as far as we're concerned, power chords falsettos = partying serious. Seriously. With the Giraffes and Stylofone. Bowery Ballroom, 6 Delancey St., (212) 533-2111. $15. 8 p.m.
WEDNESDAY, DEC. 14
Yowza! Lady Bunny's got a brand new DVD -- "Rated X (For X-tra Retarded)" -- out just in time for the holidays and performs selected scenes at xl tonight. We don't want to give anything away, but lets just say that the cover of the DVD features Lady Bunny and Santa having dirty sex. Lady B.'s website indicates that only those who wish to get their stockings stuffed should attend. Uh oh. xl, 357 W. 16th St., (212) 995-1400. 10 p.m. Free.

Santacon 2005!!! If you've never taken part in one of these then check out
the links below for a better idea of what this insane parade (rampage?) is
all about. If you have done one before then you know the drill and how
amazing this event is, year after year. For 2005 they're expecting over 500
Santas to spread their "unique" brand of holiday cheer and goodwill so
don't miss out! Here's the official announcement, start location/time is
not posted until 1-2 days before in order to keep it super secret...
Ho-Ho-Ho!
Hey all you bad Santas!
After much tinkering in the toy shop with assorted social calendars,
Santa is thrilled to announce his annual spreading of good beer, er,
cheer.
Hold this date!
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 10TH!
Febreze your smelly Santa suits, sanitize those Pine-Sol bottles, whip
up a few offensive toys for not-so-tots and make sure you're in shape
for a non-stop scenic stroll through the streets of New York City.
Spread the word to Santas everywhere!
Ho-Ho-Urp!
Love, Santa

Abe Lincoln Jr. is best none for all those cute little bird paste-ups that you see around the LES (or that I see at least). Tonight he has teamed up with Kid Robot to turn the Orchard Street Art Gallery into a virtual taco stand as a terribly creative and delicious art installation. "Showcasing both his vector work, a new series of his hand rendered pieces and 4 t-shirt designs for both men and women. 'Super Pendejo Meals' will be available while supplies last (complete with a veg or chicken taco and beer). Strictly limited edition, Abe’s art will be packaged in signed and numbered boxes commemorating the opening of Abe’s show and the opening of 'Taqueria Pendejo.'” The First 50 people get free toys from Kid Robot.
Date: Thursday, December 1st
Time: 7:00pm - 10:00pm
Location: Orchard Street Art Gallery (139 Orchard Street)
Cost: Free

DISTORTION DISKO ANNOUNCES
"THE NEW CHELSEA MAN PAGAENT"
THE CHELSEA BOY STEREOTYPE IS DEAD!!!
with celebrity judges
MICHAEL MUSTO, SUZANNE BARTSH, DAVID BARTON, AMANDA LAPORE & JONNY McGOVERN
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 1 AT DUVET
Win a One Year Membership to David Barton Gym!
KENNY KENNY, JOSH WOOD, GBH and DJ LARRY TEE proudly announce that the old
Chelsea stereotype is dead! There is a new Chelsea aesthetic defined by the
diverse men at Distortion Disko every week (and eek! they don't look like
Chelsea Boys!). To celebrate this new diversity, MICHAEL MUSTO, SUZANNE
BARTSH, DAVID BARTON, AMANDA LAPORE and JONNY McGOVERN will crown "The New
Chelsea Man" at midnite at Duvet on Thursday, December 1. The winner will
receive a one year membership to David Barton Gym at 23rd Street.
There is an exciting feeling around the gay community these days that
something new is happening. The old days of 'one size fits all' is beginning
to change and the new ideal of a sexy man is changing with it. Suddenly thin
boys, bears, punks, freaks, fashionistas, and wholesome preppy dudes are
starting to seem 'right' mixed in with the muscles and the clones. The fact
is, there is no norm in this new generation. In culture Madonna has a new
dance/rock album, the hottest men's fashion house Dior Homme is featuring
thin boys, and Jake Gyllenhal and Heath Ledger are in a new movie portraying
un-cliched images of gay men. Franz Ferdinand openly court gay men in their
lyrics. Straight men are the new fag-hags!!! To celebreate this refreshing
new direction for gay men here in Mahattan and the surrounding burroughs,
Distortion Disko is holding their first annual, 'New Chelsea Man' contest to highlight this diverstiy. Finally there is a gay movement that is friendly and welcomes all types of gay men.
DISTORTION DISKO party-goers will be able to complete for the title of "NEW
CHELSEA MAN" and win a one year membership to David Barton Gym. Talent is
not a requirement to enter but a good attitude is a must!!!
Duvet
45 West 21st Street
Doors open at 11pm
$10 reduced, $20 regular
Music by DJ LARRY TEE
Also check electroclash.com for the new Distortion Disko Mix Vol. 2 and
