We got some mis-info on this in the beginning... This party has no RSVP but is $5 at the door and you must say "Beautiful Decay Party" else they will charge you $20. Still well worth the cover.
It's Beautiful Decay's issue "M" release party and boy do these guys know how to put a good party together. The obvious is the 2 hour open bar of Steel Reserve (yuck) and Bacardi (yum). The bonus is some serious live performances and DJs. Like Roc Raida (X-ecutioners) live on stage beside Adam Deitch (drummer for Average White Band, Earth, Wind, & Fire, and the Nuyorican). Or Brooklyn's own Noble Society bringing down the heavy reggae vibe.
As for DJs, its kind of a who's who of FreeNYC favorites. Moe Choi and Chasekills combine forces as Robots in a Coma, DJ Synapse is here, as is DJ Gravy. J Smoke from Scratch Academy brings the technical aspect, and the Deck Demons bring the WTF factor with 4 dudes on 5 turntables. See you at the spot!
Date: Friday, November 18th
Time: 9:00pm
Location: Happy Valley (14 East 27th Street)
Cost: $5, say "Beautiful Decay Party" at the door

PAPERMAG's Picks for the Week:
MANHATTAN!*
PAPERMAG is turning 10. In honor of this momentous occasion, we're pulling out all the stops and celebrating in serious, serious style -- by putting on an art show! The exhibit, MANHATTAN!, is curated by none other than PAPERMAG's brilliant creative director Carol Lee and features works by over 75 fancy-pantsy artists. Friday night's the opening and who knows who might stop by... 100 Lafayette St. 7-10 p.m. Exhibit open through Dec. 17th.
FRIDAY, NOV. 18
There's nothing like a farewell tour for a band you've probably never heard of. Well, Texas-based indie-rockers American Analog Set have driven up North and are touring in support of their new, and presumably last, album, "Set Free." Go, but try not to fall in love with the band. Unless, of course, we can convince them to come out of retirement and return to the stage. Let the letter-writing campaign begin! Southpaw, 125 Fifth Ave., Park Slope, Brooklyn, (718) 230-0236. 8 p.m. $14.
SATURDAY, NOV. 19
Thurston Moore from Sonic Youth and one of his regular arty co-conspirators -- the drumming powerhouse that is Tom Surgal -- get together for an evening of way-out-there, space-traveling, mind-bending jamming. This isn't noise for the sake of noise. It's a frickin' religious experience. The Stone, Ave. C at E. 2nd St. 8 p.m. $10.
SUNDAY, NOV. 20
We don't usually get all gushy over movies, but here are some cold, hard facts: We saw "Walk the Line" on Sunday night, and the last three nights we've had "Walk the Line"-related dreams. There was one night when we dreamt that our roommate got accepted at Yale Law and we got into Penn, but other than that it's been all Reese and Joaquin, all the time. Call 777-FILM for showtimes and theaters.
MONDAY, NOV. 21
Bummed that you have to wait till December for the second season of "Project Runway" to begin? Be bummed no more, you fashion freaks, because those crazies at LVHRD are hosting their "Second Annual Master-Disaster Fashion Duel Creative." Watch two fashion designers go head-to-head, scissor-to-scissor, quickly creating couture with few materials on living, breathing models all in an hour's time. It's gonna be a fierce competition. Think of it as "Bloodsport" with inseam measurements. LVHRD membership closed to the public, but use PAPERMAG as a reference and email chantal.strauss@lvhrd.com and she'll send you a code to sign in. Location TBA. 8 p.m. Free.
TUESDAY, NOV. 22
Graphic novelist Chris Ware has been described as the Emily Dickinson of comics. His ACME Novelty series, featuring the beloved, underdog fellow Jimmy Corrigan, is the sensitive, thinking man's answer to the more conventional comic book. On exhibit, until December 3rd, is the soon to be published 16th edition of the ACME series. Marvel at how much can be expressed in one square inch. Adam Baumgold Gallery, 41 E. 79th St., (212) 861-7338. Tue.- Sat., 11 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. Free.
WEDNESDAY, NOV. 23
We love to laugh and we love public art. So it only makes sense that we love to laugh at ourselves for loving public art. Mocking expensive public art and the people who love it is the mission of those at the Redhead artistic collective. Inspired by this year's well-publicized art projects "The Gates" and "Floating Island," the unnamed artists at the Redhead group slapped a saffron colored mini-gate replica onto a speedboat and took it for a tour. They named the project "A Cheap Publicity Stunt Now," until the 22nd the boat will be on display as well as a documentary of its adventure. Is it revolutionary? Maybe. Is it art? Who knows? It is certain though, that it shouldn't be taken very seriously. Redhead Gallery, 125 Maiden Ln. Visit www.lmcc.net/redhead for times. Through Dec. 22nd. Free.

Talisman of Doom, Chris Caccamise's second solo show at the Sixtyseven gallery is opening tonight with a series of cut paper, painted, and enameled sculptures dealing with domestic and industrial iconography. Sixtyseven openings are always really approachable and the last one had a PBR pyramid which is pretty lax for a Chelsea gallery. official release - which says it all way better than I can - after the fold. Show continues through December 10th.

Fuse Gallery/Lit Lounge Presents:
The Art of David J and Bauhaus After Party
Friday, November 11, 2005
Please join us for a Special Opening Reception: Friday, November 11, 8pm
In 1978 David J formed the British punk band BAUHAUS with Kevin Haskins, Daniel Ash and Peter Murphy. By 1979 they had their first smash hit "Bela Lugosi's Dead". The chilling tale of Nosferatu. The song became the all time No 1 gothic anthem and catapulted Bauhaus to cult iconic status and the birth of the "Goth" genre in music today.
Bauhaus performing Bela Lugosi's Dead was featured in the Tony Scott classic vampire movie The Hunger(1983) staring David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve. The music was featured through out the movie
but it was at David Bowie's request that Bauhaus be filmed performing the opening sequence. He said "they looked like Vampires."
Bauhaus had a string of hits in the early eighties and are largely thought of as the number one Gothic/Punk band in the world.
Following their termination in ‘83, David re-grouped
with Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins in 1985 to form LOVE AND ROCKETS. Another highly successful New Wave band, scoring a gold record with their first release, ‘Ball Of Confusion’. With each successive album outselling the previous one, the band achieved their biggest hit to date, with the single, ‘So Alive’, which reached the number two position in the US charts in 1989. Throughout David J’s tenure with these bands, he produced several solo albums which have garnered much praise, such as music writer, Matt Hoffman’s description of him as “One of the great songwriters of recent times.”
1998 saw the ‘Bauhaus Resurrection’, the original band reforming for a sell out world tour in which they broke many house records. A DVD was released featuring their two triumphant nights at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom.
In Summer of 2005 Bauhaus stole the show with their performance at Coachella(CA) festival and are currently touring the world
They play 2 nights at Nokia Theater NYC Nov 11 and 12 2005.
David J’s creative involvement has always been broader than the purely musical, creating artwork for record covers, posters and merchandise, designing stage lighting and directing videos. Perry Farrell describes him as the “avant of the avant-garde.”
As a visual artist he has exhibited internationally. ‘The Glittering Darkness’, a book featuring his art work based around distorted images of Bauhaus was first published by Pie Books of Japan in 2003, this book is now available directly through the web site:
www.davidjonline.com.
David will be exhibiting 30 pieces of original work plus 'The Glittering Darkness' book will be on sale.
David J will be at the opening to meet you and sign copies after the Bauhaus show.
Red Stripe will be sponsoring this event.

Hi folks,
I apologize for the late notice, but I hope that you will come to the following talk I am giving with my friend Stacia tomorrow night (Thursday). The talk will be followed by an open discussion and forum on the current global situation, keeping in mind New Orleans as well as the current French riots, envisioning new forms of community organization to cope with accelerating breakdowns. I will also discuss the Evolver Project, a new community membership and media company (formerly Metacine), that I have co-founded, with the first issue of Evolver magazine launching in January.
Hope to see you there!
Daniel

The Life, Death, Rebirth Cycle in Individuals and Society
Daniel Pinchbeck will offer an analysis of current events, including the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and open the possibility that we are passing through a death and rebirth passage in our own culture. He will suggest this is a natural process, as well as an apocalyptic transition, leading to a new model of individual responsibility and a new civilization based on compassionate action that must be supported by new social institutions. Holotropic Breathwork facilitator Stacia Butterfield will discuss Stan Grof’s work on the holotropic model of the psyche and the life, death, rebirth cycle, as it is reflected in his study of non-ordinary states of consciousness in which his subjects reexperience aspects of their birth traumas.
An open discussion of these issues will follow.
BIOS:
Daniel Pinchbeck is the author of "Breaking Open the Head: A Psychedelic Journey into the Heart of Contemporary Shamanism" (Broadway Books, 2002) and a regular columnist for Arthur Magazine. His second book, "2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl," on indigenous prophecies and consciousness transformation, will be released by Viking-Penguin in April. His feature articles have appeared in The New York Time Magazine, Esquire, Wired, The Village Voice, and numerous other publications. A founding editor of Open City, a literary journal, he is currently launching a new membership and media company, Evolver (www.evolverproject.com) , offering a new paradigm for a planetary culture.
Stacia Butterfield is a graduate of Grof Transpersonal Training, and a Holotropic Breathwork Facilitator based in New York and California.

MONDAY, NOV. 7
Believe it or not, "sex worker fashion" is not an oxymoron. They might be better known for taking it off then keeping it on, but the ladies and gents of the night are just like the rest of us and are often concerned about having nothing to wear. That's why "$pread Magazine," the magazine for and by sex workers is hosting their first ever "Sex Workers' Fashion Show." The titillating event will feature, among other things, several fetish items and stripper gowns. An amateur burlesque show and after-party will follow. Try to refrain from being the smartass who requests "Hot in Herre." Galapagos, 70 N. 6th St., Williamsburg, Brooklyn, (718) 384-4586. 8 p.m. $7.
TUESDAY, NOV. 8
Love does not even begin to describe how we feel about Cyndi Lauper. We worship and idolize (and used to stalk) the songbird/ queen of schizophrenic fashion. If you're lucky enough not to have a restraining order you can catch the amazingly talented chanteuse as she celebrates the release of her new album by performing acoustic versions of her classics. New York Society for Ethical Culture, 2 W. 64th St., (212) 874-5210. 8 p.m. $40.
WEDNESDAY, NOV. 9
Artist Melissa Martin has got to have the most well developed mandible ever. Her sculptural installation, "Father," is made out of nearly 300 pounds of chewing gum. The gum was then shaped to resemble slabs of meat, packaged in Styrofoam trays supermarket meat aisle style and arranged on what looks like a morgue body tray. We're betting that Jeffry Dahmer posters lined her teen-age bedroom. Art in General, 79 Walker St., (212) 219-0473, 12-6 p.m. Free. Through Dec. 17th.

An interior decorator is converting the space into the "Andy Warhol Factory". Dress up like Warhol, Lou Reed or one of the Factory Girls (Edie Sedgwick, Candy Darling, etc.) or anyone else from that era. Warhol videos projected onto the walls, DJs spinning Velvet Underground, 60s era-music, and today's hits. Surface Magazine and Art News Magazine are filling the giftbags with their current issues. Paul Frank is producing a special T-Shirt for the event with sponsors listed on it. 100 Certificates for a pair of custom-designed Vans (Sneakers) will be handed out to the 100 best-dressed. Wonka Candy all over the place. Hiya Mints, Juicy Couture and C&C California...
This is in conjunction with the Elton John AIDS Foundation, and all proceeds from the event will go to them.
