Then, join us this Thursday for the first gallery night of the 529 Arts
Building. Our Busse/Ricco will still be up, and all the galleries in
our building will be open from 6 to 8pm. Refreshments will also be
served, and there will be an after-party at Lotus.
See the review of DIETMAR BUSSE's photographs in this week's New Yorker:
Busse, a photographer in temporary exile from New York last year, made
these austere winter landscapes in and around the German village where
he was born. Several of his strongest images center on single, leafless
trees--one silvered with a coat of snow, all of them dramatically spare
and sculptural against blank skies. Flat, green fields disappear at the
horizon in a line of mist-covered trees; a dappled gray horse gallops
across a blur of white; an eviscerated bird, feathers scattered all
around, spreads its wings one last time in the snow. In Busse's
pictures from home, his remembrance of things past suffuses the present
with real tenderness. Through July 1. (Tecchia, 529 W. 20th St.
212-741-2900.)
