The Hold Steady @ Bowery Ballroom & Music Hall Of Williamsburg, June 8-11

Brooklyn-based rockers The Hold Steady will hold court for four days during the New York leg of their current tour, playing the Bowery Ballroom June 8th and 9th and the Music Hall Of Williamsburg June 10th and 11th. The post-punks have remained in relatively good standing with critics since their 2004 debut, Almost Killed Me and up through last year's Stay Positive. Not that it matters what the critics think; Craig Finn and Co. have developed such a feverish following—nowhere bigger than it is in New York—that they sell out even their multiple-night stints. The solution: get your tickets through NYC.com!

Jam band Phish @ the Nikon, June 2, 4, 5

Musical chameleons and current flag-bearers of the "jam band" genre Phish will perform at the Nikon at Jones Beach on June 2nd, 4th, and 5th. The band has proven only slightly less reliable than rappers when it comes to keeping themselves retired, and the group has reunited on more than one occasion since their "hiatus"/"breakup" was announced years ago. Now Phish are full-on touring again, with a headlining spot alongside Bruce Springsteen and the equally tumultuous E Street Band, Nine Inch Nails, and the Beastie Boys at this year's Bonaroo. Chances are, if you want to go to one of these Phish concerts, you want to go to all three, but you probably know the drill by now: you've got to get your tickets before they sell out!

Nine Inch Nails & Jane's Addiction @ PNC Center, Nikon, June 6th & 7th

In a move reminiscent of Bowie's Earthling tour, superpowers Nine Inch Nails and Jane's Addition will play the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ on June 6th and the Nikon at Jones Beach on June 7th. It may be another Dave & Goliath match-up, considering Reznor & Co.'s acumen for blistering stage shows that drain the audience and the band equally, but the finally-reunited original Jane's Addiction line-up (back for the first time since their first breakup in 1991) is no dark horse in this bi-headlining tour. Whatever the outcome of the rather Frankstein-esque matchup, the show is guaranteed to be historic and will certainly entertain a capacity crowd. Just because it's Memorial Day weekend doesn't mean you should completely slack off, so get your tickets right now!

Reunited rockers the Toadies @ the Fillmore at Irving Plaza, May 27th

Not doubt long counted out by the mainstream, the formerly disbanded Toadies reunited in 2006 and have released two albums, Rock Show and No Deliverance, in as many years. Nearly fourteen years after their only hit single, 1994's "Possum Kingdom" off the Rubberneck album, the Toadies are still very much alive, albeit without the exact lineup that brought them to fleeting fame in the previous decade. The Toadies will play to their many fans at the Fillmore East on May 27th, and if you've got the inkling to go, you'd better make up your mind and get your tickets now!

Impossibly-weird guitarist Buckethead @ BB King Blues Club, May 30th

Buckethead, the man voted Most Likely To Wear A KFC Bucket On His Head And Play With Guns 'N' Roses by his graduating class, will play the BB King Blues Club on May 30th. Clearly not content with the ordinary, the former GNR guitarist and Primus hanger-on released a box set of thirteen albums of unreleased, original material in 2007 alongside two albums under his other pseudonym Death Cube K, a separate five-disc box set, and a live Praxis album, who also released a long-awaited album in 2008. Listing Buckethead's total output over the last three years would likely destroy the internet, so we'll just mention that his most recent albums, Slaughterhouse On The Prairie and A Real Diamond In The Rough, are full of as much metal-shredding and musical weirdness as we've all come to expect from the man with the white mask and the KFC bucket full of long noodley hair. Buckethead is a renowned guitarist and one of the greatest/weirdest live acts in the known universe, so do yourself a favor and get your tickets now before he returns to his home planet!

Classic femme rockers The Bangles @ B.B. King Blues Club, May 24th

All-female 80s hit-makers, The Bangles, will play the B.B. King Blues Club on May 24th. It's a testament to the continued popularity of Hoffs & Co. that, with only four albums to their credit (three in the 80s and one in 2003), they still pull off national headlining tours. You can be sure everything from All Over The Place right up to Doll Revolution will make its way into the setlist, including all-time greatest hits like "Eternal Flame" and "Walk Like An Egyptian." Make sure you secure a seat early before this show sells out: get your tickets right now at NYC.com!

Band of Horses @ Carnegie Hall, June 11th

Seattle natives and—almost necessarily—Sub Pop artists Band of Horses will play the prestigious Carnegie Hall on June 11th. The band, which has released two albums via the Seattle-based label—are still touring on the strength of 2007's Cease To Begin, which debuted at #35 on the Billboard 200 and rated as one of the top albums of the year, according to Rolling Stone. You can see them in the storied Carnegie Hall, playing songs like the brilliant "Is There A Ghost," but only if you get your tickets right now!

Country poplet Taylor Swift @ Madison Square Garden,

Country neophyte Taylor Swift will play Madison Square Garden with Kellie Pickler on August 27th. That may seem like unusually advance notice for a concert alert, but given Swift's popularity—she was the best-selling artist of last year—the earlier fans know, the better. With her debut album Fearless already multi-platinum and still selling strong, the nineteen year old singer-songwriter is proving to be just the shot in the arm country music needed to reenter the mainstream. Adding to the hubbub has been the dearth of negative reviews of Swift's release; she has garnered almost exclusively positive criticism since the album came out in November. To us, that sounds like the kind of person that could sell out the Garden in no time at all, so here's your advance warning: get your tickets now because they won't be available for much longer.

Indie rockers The Shins @ Terminal 5, May 18 & 21

They may have risen to popularity due to Garden State, but the Shins will be spending two nights at Terminal 5 in New York on May 18th & 21st. The band is continuing to tour on the strengths of 2007's Wincing The Night Away, and these shows may be the soonest fans can expect to hear new music from Mercer & Co. given the very tentative "early 2010" date for their next album. The show on the 21st was added when the 18th sold out, but guess what? We have tickets to both shows right here at NYC.com!

Folk veteran John Prine @ Beacon Theatre, May 15

One of music's most beloved underdogs, cult favorite John Prine, will play the newly restored Beacon Theatre on May 15th. Few songwriters have dabbled so successfully in the clever and poignant as Prine has over the last thirty-odd years, and even fewer can say that their first performance review came from the legendary Roger Ebert. With friends like Kris Kristofferson and the late, great Steve Goodman, John Prine launched a very long and acclaimed career—if a little under the radar. His latest release, the brilliant Fair & Square, showed that Prine hasn't lost a bit of his clever edge over since his first album in the 1970's, and as we know from recent shows, his raconteur streak remains in place, adding a depth of experience to his live performances that's beyond value. This Friday is his only stop in New York City, so for those who didn't get tickets yet, we've got plenty available right here at NYC.com!

Art Brut @ Mercury Lounge, June 1-5

The always clever and never quite serious Art Brut will begin a five-night residency at the Mercury Lounge on June 1st. After the coolly-received It's Complicated, their sophomore effort, Art Brut's new album, Art Brut vs. Satan, has been getting great reviews, and not just because Pixies frontman Frank Black produced the album. The perennially weird Art Brut are more entertaining live than anywhere else—which is saying a lot, considering how entertaining their albums have been thus far—and all five shows are expecting to sell out well in advance, but we've got plenty of tickets right here at NYC.com!

Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band @ Izod Center, May 21 & 23

The legendary Bruce Springsteen, who really needs no introduction, continues his jaunt in support of Working On A Dream with the E Street Band at the Izod Center in East Rutherford on May 21st and 23rd. The Boss will no doubt pull out all the stops for these two shows—which are so close to his hometown of Asbury Park—and perform unbelievable, searing playlists full of his greatest hits and most electrifying tunes. There are only two shows, and only one Boss, so get your tickets now!

Folk's poet laureate Leonard Cohen @ Radio City, May 16-17

Sometimes poet Leonard Cohen will play two shows at Radio City Music Hall on May 16 and 17. The gravelly-voiced singer, probably most famous for his heavily-covered song "Hallelujah," is one of folk's most celebrated artists, with a brilliant documentary dedicated to him (I'm Your Man), countless awards, and inductions into both the Canadian Hall Of Fame and the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame (where Lou Reed—no slouch himself, musically—described Cohen as a member of "the highest and most influential echelon of songwriters." Such a phenomenal artist in one of the city's best venues is sure to sell out, so be sure you get your tickets right now at NYC.com!

Legendary singer Etta James performs with The Roots @ BB King Blues Club, May 11-13

The Queen of the Blues, Etta James, will perform at B.B. King Blues Club for three nights, from May 11th to 13th. The sassy soul singer will be joined onstage by hip-hop band The Roots, who are legends in their own right despite having retired from touring to a full-time gig as the house band for Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. The four-time Grammy Award-winning chanteuse will bring her notorious contralto voice to bear on songs from all across her storied career, including her recent albums, All The Way, Blues To The Bone, and the award-winning Let's Roll. Three nights means plenty of opportunity to see Miss James, so get your tickets now!

Metal maniacs Mastodon @ the Fillmore & Music Hall Of Williamsburg, May 9 & 10

The heavy metal band from Georgia that has more stories of debauchery than Motley Crue will overthrow the Fillmore at Irving Plaza on May 9th and the Music Hall of Williamsburg on May 10th. Now entering their tenth year as a band, Mastodon has put out four critically and commercially successful albums and toured the world, amassing a humongous following. Unless you want to deal with the Leviathan of fans barging into ticket outlets, we suggest getting your tickets right here at NYC.com!

Operatic pop vocalists Il Divo @ the Izod Center, May 9th

The multinational quartet of singers, Il Divo, will perform at the Izod Center in East Rutherford on May 9th. The popular group—which hails from Spain, Switzerland, France, and the US—is still riding high on their 2008 release, The Promise, which reached the number one spot on the UK music charts upon its release. While the band has only been around since 2004, they've managed to release six albums of music that ranges across all genres and culls traditional favorites alongside original hits. Their following has only grown larger since that first album, and it's a sure bet that the Izod Center will only just barely holding the faithful. So get your tickets now!
