In modern music, very few musicians and composers hold the respect of others like that of saxophonist Wayne Shorter. In his 50-plus year career, he has performed with jazz, pop, and rock legends, cementing his legacy as one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. On Tuesday December 2nd, the world of music celebrates his 75th birthday at Carnegie Hall with a special performance by Shorter and his quartet. Featured in his band are drummer Brian Blade, pianist Danilo Perez, and bassist John Patitucci. This promises to be the most important jazz concert of 2008 and tickets are selling out fast!

Argentinean born Sofia Koutsovitis studied with world renowned Panamanian pianist Danilo Perez at Boston’s prestigious New England Conservatory. She has melded this influence among others to create a riveting mix of world, Latin, and jazz music. She brings her show to Drom on New York’s Lower East Side on Saturday November 15th. Along with Sabrina Lastman, this show will be great for anyone that loves Latin and world music because both artists bring bands rich in percussion, tradition, and exploration.
