Ziggy played guitar...
...But the schoolkids in the 19th century didn't. All the anachronisms in the show aside, it makes for a great musical to conflate the distant past and the present. With great choreography by Bill T. Jones and a touch of flamboyance to boot, Wedekind's old play has a new musical life here. My conclusion? The kids are alright, but just alright.

great food, nice atmosphere
Eating before a show at Lincoln Center can be an ordeal, so I usually visit an old neighborhood favorite, O'Neals. The service is fine, the food is consistently good, and after the show it's open late so you can dine then if you prefer not to rush.

attention Dylan lovers!
Twyla Tharp, who generally gets things just right, hasn't succeeded here. The dancing and jumping and thumping action seems about right, but how on earth is this supposed to mirror or reflect the great Bob Dylan? That's where it doesn't quite cut the mustard. I'm unconvinced by this production.

Mendacity!
Remember "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" and that wonderful word mendacity: "What's that smell in this room? Didn't you notice it, Brick? Didn't you notice the powerful and obnoxious odor of mendacity in this room?" The four characters in this play are hilarious and cutthroat, liars and narcissists, and in short: allegorical figures. You know these archetypes. Go see it for its great roles: Diane, the toughass agent; Mitchell, the closet case actor; Alex, the rentboy; and Ellen, the warped.

must see the Grinch!
I caught a preview and loved the Grinch on Broadway as much as the kids love him in all his zillions of other incarnations. Along with the Rockettes at Radio City, this will be a must-see this holiday season.

you have to admire and pity Butley
If you saw "The Producers" and loved Nathan Lane, you'll love him even more in this challenging and clever role. Pity poor Buckley, a brilliant scholar, who can't hack it any more. His relationships—personal, professional, etc.—all seem to be crumbling. Yet his wit and verbal abilities keep this play going and going and going through many terrific moments.

Hilarious, witty and great songs
"Kiki and Herb will die for you" at Carnegie Hall was supposed to be this duo's last show ever, and fortunately was not. Although they've had this act of old songs updated to add political spice for years now, this show is more entertaining than you could imagine.

the best show in town!
There really is nothing like it on Broadway! Such an amazing spectacle, great family fun, something you want to sway to the beat of over and over. The creativity, the action, and the music make this the best show around. I just saw it again for the THIRD time and loved it more than ever.

massive Fairway, great stuff, some odd characters
What was it about Brooklyn this weekend? We had a lovely stay, saw Broadway shows, and visited some new places our hosts took us to in Brooklyn. And this huge Fairway was incredible, and we did love the shopping experience. It was WEIRD, though. Sort of like being in the other fairways, but not. The same familar layouts, in that the same departments are by the same departments, but it's just massive and winds around. When we got there today, I think a press reception was going on, so tons of people wielding video cameras and nametags were hanging around. It made the entrance very crowded. A nice parking lot, right on the ocean. That will be a pleasure in the summer, all those breezes. Maybe...

snappy service- they snap at you
During our stay in Brooklyn, we visited this newcomer. I must say, good cupcakes: not too big, not too much frosting, and not too sweet. Really very nice. It is spare inside, nicely done, but lady who owns it better get another attitude and focus more on customer relations and less on her kitschy baker's hat. I realize this isn't Texas and people aren't always quite as how-y'all-doin' friendly, but her unpleasantness really startled us.
