I waited in line at Starbucks for a gingerbread latte and got bumped a few times. Everyone who showed up at the office is miserable. And sick with the flu. What kind of Christmas will this be? Well I am so happy we are leaving for Christmas tomorrow, thank you Staten Island for the bridges connecting us to the mainland so we can drive outta here. New Jersey never seemed so sweet.

cold walk this morning

So I got off the ferry at 6:45 this morning and wow were there tons of people—everywhere!!! I mean this was pure chaos. And it was a cold walk to work, usually I take the train two stops from South Ferry. Brrrrr hope this ends fast.

Staten Island ferry breaks down!

How annoying was this for us commuters? "A Staten Island Ferry traveling to Manhattan with hundreds of passengers broke down Friday morning and drifted in the Hudson River toward the Statue of Liberty before tugboats accompanied it to Staten Island," officials said.

Christian Slater off the hook

a plea deal that will allow him to avoid jail time for grabbing and squeezing a woman's buttocks on an Upper East Side street in May. Newsday says the actor, whose movies include "Heathers" and "True Romance," was arguing with a cab driver and then a girlfriend at 2a.m. May 31 before he walked up behind a woman at 1650 Third Ave. and inappropriately touched her, prosecutors said.
This seems so wrong, but I'm not a famous actor so who am I to say?

a mega-church in Greenwich Village

A lot of mega churches have come to Texas and California, and the trend continues across USA, even on to Brooklyn's Christian Cultural Center. Bestselling New York Times author Malcolm Gladwell had a long article in the New Yorker last week about Rev. Rick Warren and his mega church in Orange County, California. They had to rent the Anaheim Angels' baseball stadium just to address the entire congregation at once! Rick Warren's The Purpose Driven Life became one of the bestsellers of all time. Warren told his publishers he would sell 100 million copies. It already has sold 23 million copies. And no huge major newspaper, not even Gladwell's, has reviewed it.
So that's why I was so interested to see this in my mailbox today: "The River is a new church meeting in Greenwich Village seeking life in all its fullnews—the life Jesus promises." This church, at 219 Sullivan Street, has all the makings of a mega church. It has a website and has services that are "casual and friendly with lively music". This seems to be under the radar screen of Greenwich Village, a quiet and small neighborhood with a fair share of traditional churches. Usually when you get mail from churches in NYC, it's asking for donations for the homeless or other charitable causes. So The River looks like it will be an interesting phenomenon.

the neighbors are gone!!!

What's the #1 quality of life issue for me? Sleep. We all deal with this problem. Whether it's the trash trucks at 3 a.m. or honeybunch snoring or the homeless breaking into our trash cans to get the deposit bottles, sleep is a big issue. So I was so happy when I looked out the window the other day and saw those women were gone. These three, obviously fresh out of college, moved in around July of last year. Sure, it was their first real apartment. Sure, they had a blast. At our expense and everyone else's. Parties five nights a week until 4 a.m. Screaming at the top of their lungs all the time. Screaming at each other. Screaming at the t.v. Yelling on the phone. Even though their living room window was a good 40 feet from our bedroom, I heard those screams day and night. Everything was a scream. Scream, scream, scream. These girls were hooked on estrogen, their hormones were raging nonstop. Oh, you say, they are all like that today. I wasn't like that. My friends weren't like that. And I went to talk to the super of that building yesterday after work. He said: "We called them the party girls!" And so did the three neighbors I saw on the street. Everyone is so happy they are gone. It's like a battle has been won without having to go to war.

going on vacation

We are going on vacation, finally I get a break from riding the Ferry and dealing with my Wall St boss
