Morimoto is a NO GO
Pros: Ambience
Cons: Food average at best, service below average
I was so delighted to attend one of the "Iron Chef's"; celebrated restaurants, only to be so disappointed in the end. We had a party of 6, so we were able to sample a good portion of the menu. I was expecting the flavors to be spectacular, but the tuna tartar was average at best and the oysters (3) with uni and fois gras did not even blend the flavors together as I would have expected. The duck dish was less than spectacular as the flavors really came from the condiment sauce rather than the duck itself. We all sampled the halibut, the black cod dish, and the sea bass as well. The best dish was the sea bass, cooked very delicately in a miso broth, but the other dishes were extremely forgettable. Not only was the food a disappointment, but the service was also something less to be desired. My appetizers came too close together and one of my appetizer dishes was placed before another person, which was quite uncomfortable. The server forgot to add a 'birthday celebration' dessert and when I reminded him and it came, a common diner could have done better as all she received were a few pieces of chocolate and the words written in some sort of syrup, 'Happy Birthday'. Definitely not worth the $500 dollars we spent and wish I would have learned earlier that Mario Batali's restaurant was across the street. I would have definitely made the move there. Also, the restaurant adds a 20% gratuity I assume on parties of 6 or more, and I left wondering what did I really pay for? Be for warned, and really not worth the effort.
