"Ordinary Days" is Extraordinary!

Pros: Great tunes, lyrics, voices, and acting; and a bargain!
Cons: Buy ahead, small theatre, get there early...

I took my wife and adult son to the Opening Night (Oct 2) performance of "Ordinary Days" and we were all spellbound by the production. It is great entertainment at a bargain price. First the logistics: the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center's Black Box Theatre is small and seating is general admission, so get your tickets ahead of time and arrive early to pick a good seat. Then be prepared for catchy songs with clever lyrics and phrasing, creating a story which weaves together the lives of four New Yorkers who initially introduce themselves in song. The situations evolve within a very minimal set which meets the needs of the production. The musical show is provided with tasty piano accompaniment by Vadim Feichtner. The four stars are well cast with excellent voices and stage presence. Kate Wetherhead was a standout for us, but all delivered very engaging performances. There are so many lyrics to remember, but they made it seem easy, even on Opening Night. A bonus for us was the placement of the show in NYC after we had been doing the tourist thing for a few days so that we could really appreciate the story elements of tall buildings and the Metropolitan Museum. The songs will make a successful CD someday with the story held intact much as a recording of "Song and Dance." Thank you, Roundabout Theatre Company!
