powerful, provocative documentary film
Pros: The Walter Reade is a great theater, one of the best in the city.
Cons: none.
I saw this movie at the Tallgrass Film Festival in Wichita. Now it's playing in New York City, and you should catch it if you can.
This movie springs from Thomas Frank's 2004 book of the same name. It profiles the conservatives of Kansas, the reliable base of the Republican Party. At first, these people seem like classic wingnuts, very extreme. But as the movie progresses, they are not made fun of, but fleshed out as real people. By the end, you kind of like them. It's quite a ride, just the kind of thing that makes documentaries so much better, in my opinion, than a lot of feature films out there.
In short, highly recommended. Bring a friend, you'll really want to talk about this movie right after you've seen it.
