I brought my cat, Edith, to see the doctor. I was told by the shelter that she was a 3 year old female, and I conveyed this information to the doctor. She was sneezing, with a runny nose, and eye infection. He did a very brief exam, and sent me home with antibiotics. Three weeks later she was not better and had a loss of appetite. I took her to another vet, who immediately told me that Edith was not a female, and that "she" was at least 7 years old. He also suggested that I hospitalize her, with IV fluids, because she looked like she might have FIP (an incurable virus that eventually leads to death).
