how it was...and never will be again?
Pros: really interesting place
Cons: not overwhelmingly fascinating
Incredible insights into the squalid life on the Lower East Side at the end of the 19th century here, tenements overcrowded with immigrants and their children, poor sanitation, plumbing, etc. And when one hears woeful tales of overcrowding in apartments and houses today, one is reminded that things have changed (at least where plumbing and technology are concerned). Definitely worth a visit!
