Aussie style in the West Village
Pros: Great for cocktails at the bar before dinner, excellent service.
Cons: Unisex WC, can be noisy, slightly pricey.
First impressions, this is a well designed place, just the right balance of soft lighting to make it a great venue for stylish drinks and dinner with friends (there are canteen style long tables in the back) or a dinner date you don't want to get romantic with, perfect because I was there with my brother. It's quite loud in there so despite being cosily close to the couple at the next table we weren't listening to each other's conversations but I wouldn't go there for romance by candlelight. Given that this place is Aussie owned you'd expect a bit more from the kitchen. We shared mussels which were delicious, though the mussels themselves weren't a patch on the big fat ones I was eating the week before in the mediterranean. Then fish and chips for him and asparagus risotto for me and although neither of us were complaining I suspect that was because the wine was going down so well as you would expect from the Aussies. Excellent service, I think we spent about $130 including a couple of cocktails. I'd go back.
