Has it been weeks since you found yourself in a public park, drunk, in an ill-fitting costume, being beaten with a baguette? If you miss those moments come to the shop tomorrow, Tuesday, at 8pm and become a part of Dueling Re-Enactments, the event that will thoughtfully present, then irrevocably desecrate the history of Washington Square Park for confused tourists and crying children.
So far we have Surrealists (re-creating Dali's seizure of Washington Square park and declaration of an independent Surrealist republic in 1917), Victorian aristocrats gone wrong(Assassination of Stanford K White by Henry Thaw) executioners at the Hanging Tree, skaters re-creating the beating scene from Kids, and maybe some Beat poets chain smoking. We still need at least one more group, and as many more as wants to show up. If you want to start a group step up and do so. We need Veronica's sophomore year of High School, lost Amish, NYU Students, any good ideas welcome). If you want to keep thinking to a minimum a group will be assigned to you, tomorrow.
The event is on Saturday, at 3pm, and should run no more than 30-60 minutes. You will be plied with whiskey before, and champagne afterwards. It will be fun, allow you to beat someone with an umbrella, and will get you so laid you might die.
The Madagascar Institute is at 217 Butler Street, between Nevins and Bond, Brooklyn.
