Paul's Palace

4.5

all beef patty
I love Paul's; there is so much to love about it, with the endless variety of burgers prepared in zillions of ways. The fountain drinks, the wacky employees, the terrific and weird furnishings. It's vintage New York!

beautiful store
This retail establishment is really gorgeous, you feel special when you enter and there are several countermen eager to serve you all kinds of delicacies. The prices are high, but the value is great. It's a terrific place to shop.

Barney Greengrass

bagel with schmear?
Barney Greengrass is a temple of smoked fish, a castle among delicatessens. Keep it simple at first, maybe a bagel with schmear and smoked salmon, then work your way up to any of the many other kinds of fish. Sit down for a full meal, or get your specialities to go. It's a treat, although not light on your wallet.

Katz's Delicatessen

hot dog!
I've been going to Katz's for years and there is nothing like it. From the busy countermen slicing meats, preparing sandwiches and boiling hot dogs to the ancient tables and walls covered in memorabilia, it's hard to find a better joint than Katz's. Word of warning: Bring an appetite!

Virgil's Barbecue

awesome
Virgil's may not be authentic Kansas City or Memphis (it is in the Theater District after all!) but it is really fun, and the experience here is what counts. Pulled pork rocks, ribs are tasty. Waitresses are great.

Grand Sichuan St. Mark's

rockin' Sichuan in East Village
St Marks Place is a microcosm of the world and Grand Sichuan is the shining star. Try the dan dan noodles to start, and then enjoy the Au Zhou spicy chicken, or maybe the Chonqing-style specialities, followed by double-cooked pork or a beef dish. You can't go wrong here. Also they have bubble tea, a novelty at a Sichuan place!
