no air conditioning in theater #8
Imagine my disappointment to arrive at 7:30am today for a special early-morning screening of "The Dark Knight" only to find out the air conditioning was broken -- on the hottest morning of summer to date. The manager kindly issued a refund, but what a nuisance. He mentioned they have had troubles with theater #8 for some time. So you've been warned.

Love the food, forget the service
I've been coming here since I was a teenager. So I've seen many employees come and go. One thing remains the same: their food is excellent and the service sucks. No wonder the tip jar is usually so empty...if they could even smile, greet you with more than "Next!" or say "Thank you" customers might tip more. Just an idea....

you gotta see it to believe it
Of all the tiny cemeteries in Manhattan (including three of the 18th century Spanish & Protugeuse Jewish community), this one is the eentsiest and most fascinating.

anarchist haven and dog heaven
Anarchists have a long and colorful history in this park, when the East Village's exciting spirit leads to the rare riot. After renovations a few years ago, the dog run became known as one of the city's best, and you never know who or whose dog you might run into. Also enjoy a free game of chess with a wino or a chat with an old Ukranian lady, or a smooch with your beloved on the nicely manicured lawns.

Oh Conan
Although less exciting than going to Letterman's taping, Conan is fun.

Hi Mom
Even those New Yorkers who actually watch the Today Show don't really get the idea they could stand outside the studio in the middle of winter with a sign that says Hi Mom! But attending the taping is a lot different than pressing your nose up against the glass. Just remember: you gotta get up early!

House of Wax
Let's be honest: A house of wax can only be so exciting. Once you get over the thrill of seeing Queen Elizabeth or Rudy Giuliani and a few notorious rap stars, you begin to get bored. Madame T has seen to that, but still it's rather tiresome.

phenomenal heap of rubble
Although there is a new subway station and some construction going on, the neighborhood around Coney Island has been engulfed by advanced decay that makes today'sRussia look rich in comparison. It is so incredibly sad. The amusement park itself is a temple of kitsch.

spectacular Scandinavian
I highly recommend the venison when in season, all flavors of Aquavit (worth a try), and the Sunday brunch is great. The restaurant is extraordinary.

Port Authority Bus Terminal (PABT)

less unpleasant, yet...
What used to be the most unpleasant place in New York City, which stank of urine and was full of homeless people, was cleaned up and got classical music piped in to scare away transients. It's still not a place you want to linger one minute more than necessary, but most big-city bus terminals around the world aren't either.
