Voting to stay the course or to replace the Titanic captain?
Here we are again my brothers and sisters, in the cusp of a decision that will change the direction of governance and possibly, inoculate the dazed brains found surrounding the Oval Office and within! Will we quell the consuming zeal of a government run amuck and spitting on our civil liberties in the name of security and religious sanctity? Will we take the lessons of the past six years and ignite the fuse that will bring change to the morally and ethically bankrupt halls -where once great minds gathered to act as a beacon for freedom, and the delivery of the enslaved from the bondage of a government seeing itself as a Czarist state- bound on maintaining power over the men and women they work for?
The question you should ask yourself is simple. Have we given enough of our finances, and liberties away to secure the nation’s borders and fight terrorism? If the answer is yes, then you have a moral obligation to ensure the remaining civil liberties survive for the generations to come. If you feel the government needs to erode our economy, ethical standing in the world and take away the remainder of the rights we grew to cherish, then you should be ashamed of yourself and hold your vote in check, as those of us with the moral fiber and strength carry the mantel of true Americans attempt to save what is left of the eroding power of the citizenry.
If you felt the sting of these words and they insulted you more than the insult of allowing torture, sneak and peek searches, and the ability of the government to detain you for the type of books you read, or the e-mail you send… then my friends, you have indeed settled into the desultory vacillation that comes with the metamorphosis of being turned from a vibrant member of society into a cowering sheep, embodying the traits of diffident civility. In our country there is a saying: One hand washes the other. Unfortunately, there is only one hand being washed in Washington, DC allowing the other hand to take lobbyist money, and run a nation’s esteem into the mire, while claiming patriotism through support of an ill timed war run by an administration seeing itself as knights on a crusade to change the theological make-up of fundamentalist Muslims. There are no innocent members of Congress or the Senate either when the charge of invasion of a frail and defenseless nation has resulted in the abhorrent thralldom of the populist through daily carnage, or when the tally is counted for the rape of the civil rights of Americans.
Voting in the United States is more important this November than previously. The timid will walk the goose step and party line their fiber. I for one feel a clean sweep is in order and will vote for the devil I do not know because the one in charge now has shown the ability of evil necromancy, and what they see scares me more than the practice itself. An exit strategy that allows a future President to end a war is not an exit strategy. Claiming to be against gay marriage when he was a male cheerleader in the early sixties is ironic; claiming we were invading a country to protect the nation -when the facts did not support the action, is not a mistake. It is a calculated felony perpetrated by the members of the Project for a New American Century, members of which are found within the White House Cabinet.
Less I forget there is an estimated 21 million undocumented workers in the USA. Is it realistic to accept the White House claim that they are all working in the citrus, strawberry and wheat fields? Or does the tremendous growth of undocumented workers in the construction, hospitality and waning manufacturing sectors paint a different picture? A comprehensive immigration bill will not even be discussed before the forthcoming election. Is this the show of political courage we should expect in the future?
America, I cherish being called brother. Unfortunately the world has another view and will not accept business as usual. This is not Rome of lore. It is the greatest country on the face of the earth… the United States of America. We were once the beacon I spoke of earlier, we have now taken on the guise of the grim reaper. This situation cannot stand when in my heart I know the soul of America is good. Give me liberty or give me death, is not just a phrase of times gone by for me, it is a credo.
Vote the bums out, and let’s start fresh!
