Grand Theft Auto - tomorrow

Speaking of Grand Theft Auto, today's news from Detroit was about the Chrysler bailout not by FIAT ("Fix It Again, Tony"). In any case, shortly after reading "peace and prosperity be damned" on this poster we noticed a homeless man collapse on the cold, cold ground about 20 feet away at the corner of Ninth Avenue.

About that high wind warning

Flights to Newark are rarely delayed by more than five hours, usually only in the most exceptional of circumstances. Perhaps this is our blizzard of wind?

Road Warrior Journal: From JetBlue at JFK to Penn Station in 50 minutes via AirTrain

For those who know how to move fast at the airport, rejoice. NYC.com has time-tested the quickest route to Penn Station from JFK via public transportation, and it clocks in at 50 minutes:
We disembarked at JFK's stunning JetBlue Terminal 5 at 12:46 and began to sprint (actually a New York City fast walk) past all those excellent restaurants towards the AirTrain station. While you can follow the signs to ground transportation, it's actually faster to sneak out via a small passageway labeled "To Check In—No Re-Entry" as this means you only need take one escalator rather than two to get to the AirTrain. It takes a full five minutes at a good sprint as the very long passageway to the AirTrain station is second only to the monumental walk to get to SFO's Bart Station. (Ignore the moving walkways en route as they are generally congested with slow-moving travelers.)
Our good fortune meant we had to wait only two minutes for a Jamaica-bound AirTrain, which sat for two minutes upon arrival and departed at 12:55—nine minutes after deplaining. The AirTrain arrived at its final destination, Jamaica Station, eleven minutes later at 1:06. Here's where time-saving manuvers come into play: You'll want to have your MetroCard with at least $5.00 on it ahead of time as buying a card here slow you down due to befuddled tourists standing around the machines. Once you've passed through the gates and paid your $5.00, ignore the signs for the elevators and Long Island Rail Road as befuddled tourists and their luggage will just slow you down. Instead, hit the escalators as the signs that admonish you from taking luggage on the escalators keep the befuddled tourists at bay. Make a quick left turn and go straight ahead to the ticket office; it will take two minutes from the time you get off the train. Since you're arriving on a weekend, it will take one minute to get special City Ticket, costing just $3.25 (note: this ticket cannot be purchased in advance as it's only good on the day of sale). Time now: 1:10. This left a full eight minutes to reach nearby platform two, to catch one's breath, and to get a free suntan. Although the 1:19 train departs two minutes late, (sit on left side to continue free suntanning), it arrived at Penn Station at 1:36, a full three minutes ahead of schedule and just 50 minutes after deplaning. Total cost: $8.25. The only way to get to Penn Station faster is by taxi—though likely only between midnight and 6 am due to traffic—at a cost of at least $50 additional.
