Javits Center: I Can Haz Sign Fixed?

Five weeks after we first noticed the broken jumbotron outside the Javits Center, New York City's largest conference space, it would appear the brilliant minds managing this august institution have still not managed to find a competent repair company. Perhaps they might either browse NYC.com's Yellow Pages under "repair" or simply ask LOLCats 4 help? Srsly! K thx bye.

The Glow of 100 Eleventh Avenue

Jean Nouvel's forthcoming über-luxurious condos on the West Side Highway at 100 Eleventh Avenue are still under construction and massively over budget to the tune of $50 million, as reported last week by the Wall Street Journal. While the penthouse and upper-floor living rooms will ironically have a view of the rooftop exercise deck of the women's Bayview State Penitentiary located right next door, it's nice to know for $8 million your condo gets a golden glow in late August.

The Olympics might be over...

Several hundred protesters seen today in Midtown, on the eve of the major skull-cracking operations in the vast western Chinese gulag known as Xinjiang and Tibet, far away from the video cameras and prying eyes of Beijing-based reporters.

Sweet corn: 50 cents an ear

In addition to the fresh corn, you'll find dozens of other vegetables, herbs and flowers in season at the Wednesday Union Square Greenmarket. Overheard, regarding the three-star review for Jean-Georges Vongerichten's restaurant Matsugen: "That's a lot of stars for a noodle joint."

Summer Streets Today!

Bike, walk or jog (barefoot, as seen here) to Central Park via Grand Central from the Brooklyn Bridge. For the next three Saturdays, the new Summer Streets program features a car-free Lafayette Street, Fourth and Park Avenues from 7 am to 1 pm. Get free coffee, water bottles, even a massage—there are comfort stations all along the route. You'll get a kick out of wandering around the Park Avenue viaduct and have your photo taken with the Cornelius Vanderbilt statue in front of Grand Central.

No more flyers or menus — ever!

Perhaps you've despaired for years that absolutely nothing can be done about all those menus and circulars and worthless flyers that are shoved under your building door, left in your foyer, or even worse, dropped in front of your apartment door while you are on vacation. A solution has finally arrived: As of last Saturday, all you need do is post a sign on your building's front door that states you don't want unsolicited advertisements. A site called Stop Lawn Litter will gladly mail you a sticker to post, but you can just as easily print out the above sign from their website and post it. So long as the sign is 5" x 7" and has letters at least one inch high, you can even make your own sign.

HOW TO COMPLAIN
Call 311 or download a Sanitation complaint form, fill it out, and mail it along with the flyers to:
Director of Enforcement
NYC Department of Sanitation
c/o Unsolicited Advertisement Enforcement
1824 Shore Parkway
Brooklyn, NY 11214

And you'll never have to phone that annoying restaurant again to plead/beg/scream that you don't want their menus.
