It's understandable that with so many things to do uptown - Times Square, Central Park, Museum Mile - it's hard to get around the East Village area during a short stay. However, they do these quick, informative, and really fun tours at the East Village Visitors Center. They have a number of themed walk tours around the village with real local guides, also very flexible. Addition to their tour is their cafe with great coffee. The place has a very old-school east village atmosphere, free wi-fi and good staff. It's truly a gem!
