Whole Foods Market - Bowery

  Queue Management at Whole Foods
Went to Whole Foods on Houston this weekend with out of town visitors and I just want to say that the long line at the place really does move super quick there-- my sisters visiting really thought about just leaving when we saw it, but with so many cash registers it is really true that there is no slow line at this gigantic supermarket. Impressive.

Blue Seats— A Great Sports Bar
It's not very big but Blue Seats on The Lower East Side is probably the sleekest, swankiest sports bar I have ever seen.

I didn't count the number of flat screen TVs there but they are high resolution beauties and they are everywhere. The menu offerings range from standard sports bar fare (that means chicken wings and sliders) to more nobler chow, such Italian pasta dishes, raw oysters, and scallops wrapped in bacon.

In addition to open seating in the front and back, this chic sports establishment boasts beautifully upholstered leather booths with multiple TVs, plus two rental only private screening rooms: the eight-seat, seven-screen Dugout; and then there's the 12-screen, 17-seat...

Any Sport You Play Paragon's Got The Goods
I recently bought a ping pong paddle and swimsuit here (not that I plan to be wearing them at the same time) and I was generally satisfied with my purchases and impressed by the vast quantity and variety of sporting goods here. There are a lot of sporting goods stores in America that don't sell ping pong paddles at all.

The place was almost maddeningly busy and you're well advised to ask one of the innumerable clerks strategically positioned all over the store where your department is upon entry; otherwise you will wander aimlessly up and down stairs looking at more stuff than you planned to and feel overwhelmed by all the shopper activity going on around you. I don't usually use my iPod...

  Max Fish Still Rocks
Any Lower East Side scene bar that resists the pressure to massively renovate in this age of gentrification (or to stop serving PBR' s in a can) deserves high praise from yours truly. I think the crowded bar in front and the active billiard scene in the back works better than at most other places. Billiards is not taken too seriously here (but there are great games going on all the time) and it's pretty easy to get into a conversation with hipsters and the cooler than average tourists who know enough about NYC to stop by here. The Honey Alert Factor here also earns this place four stars.

Chicago City Limits— A Total Blast
I went and checked out their Show "One State, Two State, Red State, Blue State" with a colleague and it was a total blast.

Just how political this show gets depends to a great degree on the suggestions from the audience, but the cast will riff on anything and do it in a variety of formats-- straight monologue, solo and duet singing numbers, game shows , even a broadwayesque finale that suddenly materializes in front of your eyes after just a brief moment of conversation with the audience.

This particular show's finale was spectacular, even if the gamester topic from the audience threw the troupe for a split-second loop. Inspired by the demise of a young audience member's vide...

  In a Pinch-- it's Punjabi's
I freely admit being strapped for cash sometimes-- especially towards the end of the month waiting for that next pay check. So my visits to Punjabi's rise as the month wanes.

What's cool about the place is not just the price, although having a five dish plate of Indian food for $5 rocks. It's also the fact that every time you go there you can vary your selections because they have a standard 6-dish buffet to choose from. Feeling like chickpeas today-- go chickpeas. Feeling like spinach-- go spinach. I think that is also a reason why people repeatedly stop by this place. You can always mix it up.

  Allegretti Delight
Having challenged myself several times over the years to make the best gnocchi possible, Chef Alain Allegretti of course has taught me a lesson once again-- they were magnificent, tender and not overwhelmed by too much sauce. I also couldn't pass up ordering the scallops here, which were wonderful as well. I appreciated the understated elegance, fine service and nice wine list here.
