The Mini Apple
I took a side trip just to see the famous NYC panorama. Unfortunatly, most of the rampway was closed for renovation, but I still got to see most of it. It is quite impressive and I got the feeling of flying over NYC and looking down on all of the buildings and neighborhoods. I did look around the rest of the museum and there are some interesting pieces of art. Overall, enjoyable.

Living History of Immigration
THe visit to Ellis Island was truly fascinating. I could almost see and hear all of the immigrants getting off the ships and walking through this place, hoping to start a new life. I definitely recommend the audio tour, which gives details about the different rooms and exhibits. The exhibits are well done and show a wonderful array of the different immigrants who were able to start a new life in USA. This is a recommended visit for all who come to New York.

Iconic NYC landmark
The most, or at least one of the most, touristy places in New York, but ya gotta love the Empire State Building. A classic example of engineering and art deco design. Plus a great view from the top. Everyone hits the 86th floor observatory, but for $14 more, you can escape the crowd and get a great view from the 102nd floor observatory. Plus on cold days, it is completely enclosed. Definitely a must see for tourists and natives alike.

Not What I Expected
I missed the Bodies Exhibition when it was here in Los ANgeles, so I got the opportunity to go in New York. However, I was a bit disappointed in the exhibit. I think it could have been done a little more artistically in spots and being in the medical profession, I noticed a lot of inaccuracies in the descriptions of the various organs. The best part is the section on the arteries, though. Not something I would recommended, especially to those in the medical profession.

The Best Italian Franchise
What is there to say about the Olive Garden? The food is cookie cutter but good. And the bread sticks of course, are the best. This restaurant is in an interesting location, smack in the middle of Times Square, and the dining room is upstairs, so one can watch all the people mill around. Nice family place.

Jewish Comfort Food
Having some Jewish ancestory, this was like having a comfort food made by Bubbe. I had the split pea soup and a kasha knish, which I split with my boss who was with me. This warmed me down to my feet and was very tasty. THe only way to describe this is home cooked. I can see why this place has been around so long. It was a nice respite for a long walk around lower Manhattan.

Mamma's Italian Cooking
I presume this is the original that has been here since the old Fulton fish market was here. It is a tiny place, but has a real homey feel. THe service is wonderful, like going home to mamma for a great meal. THe special which is very popular is filet of sole in a marinara sauce served over a bed of spaghetti. THe fish is very fresh, as one would expect, and the sauce was one of the best marinara's I have ever tasted. THe coffee is very good too. Definitely a no-miss place.

No They Don't Serve Turkey
Pasha is a nice little Turkish restaurant on the upper West Side, near Lincoln Center. THe atmosphere is nice. THe food is very good. I had the braised salmon with a lemony sauce, served on spinach with rice and grilled zucchini. THe desert was very rich, the chocolate sponge cake and a cup of Turkish coffee. However, the service, which started out great, fell off and the waitstaff seemed to have disappeared by the end of our meal. Overall a nice place.

Not a Bad Little Place
I have not had a really bad experience at this hotel. It is worth the money I paid. And I didn't come to Manhattan to sit in my room! My big complaint, and the management is aware of the problem, is the very noisy heating system-loud banging everytime it starts up. They have been turning off at night, which is OK with a nice blanket. Other than that, the rooms are clean and the bed is comfortable.

Variety the Spice of Life
Cranberry has a nice buffet spread of hot and cold dishes. They also have pizza, but it doesn't compare to Mariella. The price is reasonable, about $6 per person.
