I'm Melting...You wretched Girl!!

I think I really am melting.  It has been unbelievably HOT out here.  Last Saturday, Burbank had a high of 112 with about 50-60% humidity.  All I did that day was sleep with the AC and a fan on me.  On the other end of the valley, in Woodland Hills, their high was 119.  That's just insane.  The temps have been going down but we still have the humidity.  There have been intense thunderstorms, but the last two days we haven't seen the sun.  It has been overcast all weekend and there has been some relief in the form of a breeze.  This weather has been very strange...How about a little fire, scarecrow??

Where Am I??

Wow.  Sometimes I swear I am in a foreign country.  Things can be SOOO different here in California.  We can't get a signal from the atomic clock to set our own clocks out here.  We have to add all of these additives to our gasoline, by law, and pay for it.  Some items ordered by mail order are not allowed in California.  We have to pay a recycling fee on electronic equipment. And to top it off, we have to declare sales tax on anything purchased out of state and shipped, although I don't know how many Californians actually DO.  And a bunch of other weird regulations.  This was all like this before Arnie, but it's so strange to feel like you're in a way not part of the rest of the United States.  Oh well.  It's home anyway.

4th of July

Fourth of July is pretty quiet here in Burbank.  We heard the occasional "illegal" firework going off somewheres in the neighborhood.  The family and I sit out on our front lawn and watch the City's firework display.  They hold a big shebang at our hillside amphitheatre and we are fortunate to be able to see the display from our house.  The pyrotechnics keep getting better,  and we saw some star-shaped and heart shaped ones.  Pretty amazing.  I have worked at the show in the past, with the amateur radio group.  We would patrol the parking lot berm, keeping our eyes out for wayward sparks which start fires in the scrub brush.  Aaaah...fire season is upon us.  It's pretty amazing to be directly under the fireworks display.  We did have to wear protective gear, though.  I would love to see the fireworks in NYC, too.  I bet they're pretty cool.
