I am a native Californian who absolutley loves New York City. I visited in 2004 for a medical conference and try to get back when I can. I make it a point to attend this conference every year so I can play in my favorite city.

On Fire AGAIN

Well, California is burning again.  This is a big fire that was intentionally set and has claimed the lives of four firefighters and one is barely hanging on by life support.  I hope they catch the guy who did this and set HIM on fire!!!  We're looking forward to the rainy season and hopefully it will start sooner with the supposed El Nino developing.  Enough of this fire already.

Rocky Mountain High

News of my demise are greatly exaggerated.  Actually, I was in Denver and environs for a medical conference.  The family actually drove in the RV so the whole trip took two weeks.  The scenery is beautiful.  Of course when you own an RV, you have your share of mechanical problems (you don't own them...they own you) and had to take care of a few of them along the way.
Still not nearly as fun as NYC of course.  Denver is not a bad city and has a nice central pedestrian mall and public transportation.  Although the altitude makes one quite dry.  I couldn't seem to get enough liquid in me and not much came out the other end!!!  We also made a stop in Colorado Springs.  We tried to get to the top of Pikes Peak via cog railway but due to bad weather didn't get there.  Also drove through Garden of the Gods (see pic) and took a more southerly route home through New Mexico and Arizona - both with spectacular scenery.
Ahh it's good to be home though.

Things out here in better shape

Well, due to cooler weather and a little rain, fire crews have the Day Fire almost contained.  It has burned over 100,000 acres and was the largest fire in California history.

Other news, the Capitol Records building will be saved.  A New York firm has purchased the property and will lease it back to Capitol Records, then build on an adjacent lot.  So the landmark is safe for now.
